Shimofuro Onsen, Kazamaura, Shimokita District, Aomori Prefecture
Shimofuro Onsen Kaikyo-no-Yu
A particularly good-value communal bath if you're already travelling around the Shimokita Peninsula: for ¥450, you can compare the Oyu and Shinyu spring waters under one roof. The trip from Aomori City is too long to justify on price alone.
Check before bathing
- Opening hours
- April–October: 07:00–20:30. November–March: 08:00–20:30. Last admission is 20:00. Closed on the second and fourth Tuesdays and on 1 January.
Spring & water temperature
- Spring-source temperature
- Representative values: 56.5°C for the Oyu system and 78.8°C for the Shinyu blended spring. These are source-system figures, not bath temperatures; a current exact value for the Oyu No. 2 source used in the Inoue bath is not published.
- Bathing temperature
- Not published as a fixed temperature for each bath.
- Spring source
- The Oyu and Shinyu spring systems, plus Oyu No. 2 used for the bath associated with writer Yasushi Inoue.
- Spring classification
- Oyu: acidic sulfur-bearing sodium chloride and sulfate spring, hydrogen-sulfide type. Shinyu: sulfur-bearing sodium chloride spring, hydrogen-sulfide type.
- pH
- Representative values: about pH 2.19 for the Oyu system and pH 7.4 for the Shinyu blended spring. These are not guaranteed bath-water readings.
- Flow rate
- Current main sources do not publish a complete 2026 flow rate for the springs used by this facility.
- Water handling
- Aomori's tourism information describes the three Shimofuro spring systems as source-flowing. Kaikyo-no-Yu lets visitors compare the Oyu and Shinyu waters and also has a bath associated with Yasushi Inoue. Current main pages do not publish full pool-by-pool details for water addition, heating, circulation or disinfection, so no further treatment is inferred.
Bathing indications
The current facility page lists general bathing indications separately for Oyu and Shinyu, including cuts, burns, chronic skin conditions, general weakness in children, chronic gynecological conditions, diabetes, arteriosclerosis, muscle and joint pain, and digestive complaints. These are not treatment guarantees.
The source-flowing description is confirmed for the spring systems; other pool-by-pool treatment conditions are not published.
From 1 April 2026, admission remains ¥450 for adults from outside the village; junior-high students pay ¥150 and elementary-school children ¥100. Shampoo and other washing products are not provided. Towels cost ¥300. Tattoo rules are unconfirmed.
How to read a bath profile
Spring-source temperature and actual bathing temperature are kept separate. Each score is shown independently for comparison rather than collapsed into one overall score.
