Katayamazu Onsen, Kaga, Ishikawa Prefecture
Katayamazu Onsen Sōyu
A distinctive, budget-friendly bath in Katayamazu with a highly concentrated chloride spring. If you are sensitive to hot water, travelling without bathing supplies or coming mainly for the Lake Shibayama view, check the pool temperatures, extra costs and which side is open first.
Check before bathing
- Opening hours
- 06:00–22:00. There is no fixed weekly closing day, but maintenance closures occur. The bathhouse announced a full-day closure for 16 and 17 September 2026.
- Tattoo policy
- The facility's current first-party information does not confirm a tattoo policy. Check with the bathhouse before visiting.
Spring & water temperature
- Spring-source temperature
- 72°C on the facility's official page; the tourism association lists 72.5°C. Both figures are retained rather than reconciled.
- Bathing temperature
- Usually about 42–44°C, according to the facility's current FAQ.
- Spring source
- Katayamazu Onsen No. 2 spring.
- Spring classification
- Sodium-calcium chloride spring; high-salinity, neutral and hot.
- pH
- 6.6.
- Flow rate
- 400 L/min by powered pumping.
- Water handling
- The current tourism association page describes both source-flowing water and filtration/circulation. The baths have a source-water inlet as well as a filtration/circulation system, so they should not be described as entirely source-flowing or as circulation-only.
Bathing indications
The facility and tourism association list general bathing indications including nerve, muscle and joint pain, sensitivity to cold, fatigue, cuts and burns. These are not treatment guarantees.
The tourism association confirms a combination of source flow and filtration/circulation. The facility does not provide free towels, shampoo, conditioner or body wash; these are available to buy.
The gentler-temperature adjustment planned for the monthly children's free-admission days on the 19th and 26th is currently suspended.
How to read a bath profile
Spring-source temperature and actual bathing temperature are kept separate. Each score is shown independently for comparison rather than collapsed into one overall score.
