Wakura Onsen, Nanao, Ishikawa Prefecture
Wakura Onsen Sōyu
One of the most straightforward low-cost ways to bathe in Wakura after the earthquake, with an open-air bath, sauna and cold bath for ¥500. Check the current closure calendar and the separate outdoor footbath's status before setting out.
Check before bathing
- Opening hours
- Usually 07:00–21:00; last admission 20:30. Since January 2026, the regular closing day is the 25th of each month; if the 25th falls on a Saturday or Sunday, closure moves to the following Monday.
Spring & water temperature
- Spring-source temperature
- 82.7°C on the official analysis sheet; the same page also describes 92°C water.
- Bathing temperature
- Not published. Neither 82.7°C nor 92°C is a bathing-pool temperature.
- Spring source
- Wakura Onsen springs No. 5, No. 8, No. 10 and No. 13.
- Spring classification
- Sodium-calcium chloride spring (high-tonicity, weakly alkaline, high-temperature spring).
- pH
- 7.6.
- Flow rate
- 990 L/min by pumped supply.
- Water handling
- The official spring and water-supply page says a heat exchanger regulates the hot water without adding water, filtration is used, the baths are completely refilled after closing each day, and spring water is continuously added to replace overflow. The official analysis sheet lists 82.7°C, while another passage on the same official page describes the emerging water as 92°C; both figures are retained without trying to reconcile them.
Bathing indications
The official onsen guide lists general bathing indications including neuralgia, muscle and joint pain, bruising, cuts and sensitivity to cold. These are not a promise of treatment.
The listed spring temperatures are source figures, not bath temperatures. Wakura Sōyu resumed normal operation after the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake, but the operator warns that equipment trouble can lead to closure the following day. The separate outdoor footbath remained closed after earthquake damage in the reviewed information.
How to read a bath profile
Spring-source temperature and actual bathing temperature are kept separate. Each score is shown independently for comparison rather than collapsed into one overall score.
