Kappa no Yu in Aomori: An Early-Morning Bath Before the Day Begins
Plan a day-use visit to Aomori’s Kappa no Yu: early opening, Yokouchi bus access, recent listed prices and winter checks.
Kappa no Yu is a suburban public bath for an early start, not a station-side stop. It is in Yokouchi, about a three-minute walk from the bus stop of the same name, and the local tourism association lists hours of 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. year-round. That schedule makes it useful before a drive toward Hakkoda, but a 5 a.m. opening does not mean a bus will get you there at opening time.
The tourism association’s fare is outdated. No current price or closure calendar was available from the operator. A June 2026 directory lists these rates:

The useful distinction: a city bath on the Hakkoda side
At roughly 65 parking spaces and close to National Route 103, Kappa no Yu makes more sense by car than as an add-on from central Aomori. If your plan already heads toward Hakkoda, an early soak can fit before the mountain portion of the day. The facility is listed as a natural sodium-chloride spring, with indoor and outdoor bathing, a sauna, a cold bath, ceramic-pot tubs and a children’s bath. The Aomori Tourism and Convention Association classifies it as a flowing-spring facility, but that label does not establish that every tub uses the same water-treatment setup. Its listing also does not publish a current, tub-by-tub water-handling chart.
What the latest published prices say—and what remains unconfirmed
The facility’s tourism-association listing still displays ¥420 for adults and ¥340 for the early rate. Those figures conflict with a June 5, 2026 update from a bathing-facility directory, which lists:

The prefecture raised the regulated maximum for ordinary public bath admission to ¥530 from June 1, 2026. That official ceiling supports the timing of the newer adult listing, but it does not confirm Kappa no Yu’s actual posted ticket price or prove that its early discount is unchanged. Ask the facility for the current adult, child and senior fares before travelling; the older association page is not a reliable price source.
The recent directory listing says shampoo is not supplied free and that lockers require a ¥100 coin, returned after use. These details are not confirmed on the association page, so bring your own towel and toiletries unless the facility confirms otherwise. Aomori’s tourism listing does confirm free parking and free hair dryers.
Bus access: check the actual day, not just the route name
The nearest stop is Yokouchi. Aomori’s tourism listing puts it about three minutes from the entrance. The city publishes a live timetable and route lookup for its buses; select Yokouchi and check the direction and destination for your travel date. JR Bus Tohoku also runs the Aomori–Aomori Public University route via Yokouchi. Its published timetable notes service-day exceptions, including holiday and year-end changes, so do not assume every departure runs daily.
For a 5 a.m. bath, verify the first bus rather than assuming the facility’s opening time is reachable by public transport. If the schedule does not work, a pre-booked taxi or a rental car may be necessary. In winter, allow for road and service disruption, and keep a later bath or a central Aomori option as a fallback. If these details line up, Kappa no Yu is a practical early stop with several kinds of bathing and a short walk from the bus stop.
