Gosho-no-yu in Kinosaki Onsen: Hours, Entry Fee and What Makes It Different

Kinosaki has several public bathhouses, each with its own character. Gosho-no-yu stands out for its garden-like open-air bathing area, with trees and the hillside forming the backdrop. It is an easy first choice if you have time for just one bath and want the setting to feel distinctly different from an indoor sento-style pool.

Current admission and opening hours

The bathhouse is about a 12-minute walk from JR Kinosaki-Onsen Station, according to Visit Kinosaki. Check the town’s live bathhouse status before setting out, especially if your visit falls on a Thursday or you are planning to use a day pass.

The appeal is the open-air setting

Toyooka City describes Gosho-no-yu as Kinosaki’s only fully open-air bath. The bathing area looks toward the surrounding greenery and waterfall, making the landscape part of the visit rather than a small add-on to an indoor pool. “Open-air” refers to the bathing area; the facility still has indoor entrance and changing spaces.

Its look changed during a 2020 renovation, when much of the roof over the bathing area was removed and the design shifted toward a garden bath. Older photos and travel posts may show a different layout, so check when an image was taken before using it to picture the current facility.

Gosho-no-yu is a gender-separated public bath, where guests bathe without swimwear. It does not offer a standard private bath for couples or families. If sharing the same bath is important, look for a ryokan with a reservable family bath or a private bath in the room instead.

Is the ¥1,500 Yumepa pass worth it?

The same-day Yumepa pass costs ¥1,500 for adults and ¥750 for children. It covers the public bathhouses that are open that day. One Gosho-no-yu visit costs less on its own; two adult single entries would come to ¥1,600, so the pass starts saving money if you are sure you will visit at least two baths.

That calculation depends on what is open. Satono-yu has been closed for an extended period, while Kono-yu is scheduled to remain closed for renovation through October 30, 2026. Check the current operating notices before counting either one into your route. There is no need to buy a pass in advance and then rush from bath to bath to make it feel worthwhile.

Tattoos and water temperature

Decorative tattoos are accepted at Kinosaki’s seven public bathhouses, including Gosho-no-yu. That town-wide policy does not automatically apply to a ryokan’s own communal or private baths; check with your accommodation before using them.

Before you go

Gosho-no-yu makes sense when the outdoor setting is the main reason for choosing a bath, or when you want a first Kinosaki visit that is easy to plan. A single-entry ticket is simplest if you will use only this bath. Pick another option if you need a private bathing space, or if the open-air scenery is less important to you than a sauna or a range of spa facilities.
