Samson Hotel’s Day-Use Onsen in Hirado: Prices and Access

Samson Hotel’s day-use bath costs ¥1,000 and faces Hirado Strait. Check current hours, family-bath fees and why the hotel shuttle is not for day visitors.

Samson Hotel makes most sense as a stop on a drive across the Hirado area. It is about five minutes by car from Hirado Bridge, on the Tabira side. The public outdoor bath looks over Hirado Strait, while wide windows keep the indoor bath open to the scenery. The shared area also has an electric bath, a sitting bath and a sauna.

Day visitors can book a private family-bath room, but the hotel’s station and port pickup is reserved for overnight guests. An old bus timetable or that shuttle should not be treated as a confirmed day-trip connection.

Public bath hours and admission

Day-use detailCurrent listing
Regular hours11 a.m.–11 p.m. daily; Wednesday opening is delayed until 3 p.m. for maintenance
Adult admission¥1,000
Elementary-school children¥500
Preschool childrenFree
Eligible member or coupon rate¥800
Ten-visit pass¥7,500

These prices took effect on March 1, 2024; older listings showing ¥900 or ¥400 are out of date. Holiday schedules can be shorter, so check the hotel’s latest notice before travelling around year-end or another busy period.

For example, the hotel shortened day-use hours to 11 a.m.–3 p.m. from December 27, 2025 through January 3, 2026, with reception ending at 2 p.m. That was a dated holiday schedule, not a standing winter timetable; use the latest notice for the year you travel.

Samson’s water is described as a sodium bicarbonate spring containing iron. The published description does not include pool temperatures, pH or source flow rate, so those figures cannot be compared with other baths. The hotel also has no stated tattoo rule; call ahead if either bathing access or water details will affect your visit.

Public baths look out across Hirado Strait

The shared bathing area combines an indoor bath with broad windows and an outdoor bath facing the strait. The hotel also lists an electric bath, a sitting bath and a sauna. That mix works well after a day driving around Hirado, but the draw is the open water view rather than a long menu of specialty pools. The outdoor scenery is weather-dependent; the sources do not promise a clear view on every visit.

A private family bath costs extra

Private-bath optionRoom chargeTwo adults including standard admission
60 minutes¥2,000¥4,000
90 minutes¥2,500¥4,500
120 minutes¥3,000¥5,000

Admission is ¥1,000 per person in addition to the room charge. The hotel describes the private room’s outdoor bath as direct-flow spring water and provides a place to rest; that description applies to the family bath, not automatically to every public-bath tub.

Women-only bedrock bathPrice
One 90-minute session¥1,000
Five-visit pass¥4,500

Check availability with the hotel before travelling. The public page does not confirm that a family-bath room is available for walk-ins.

The bedrock bath is a separate add-on, not part of the standard day-use ticket. It is aimed at women and has its own 90-minute session and multi-visit price. If you only have time for a quick soak, there is little reason to add it simply to use every facility.

The hotel pickup is for overnight guests

Samson Hotel offers pickup from Tabira-Hiradoguchi Station and the Tabira Port bus stop to overnight guests; day visitors cannot use that service. The access page puts the station about five minutes away by car, but the walk takes roughly 30–40 minutes over hilly roads. From the port bus stop, it is a steep 15–30-minute walk. Parking is available.

Check current public-bus links and return times for your date. The timetable currently easy to find online is from 2025 and is not a reliable basis for a 2026 connection. If driving, bathe before crossing Hirado Bridge or after island-side sightseeing rather than backtracking across the strait.

Samson has no stated tattoo rule, including for its reservable family bath. Confirm with the hotel before booking if tattoo access matters to your stay.

A sensible stop for drivers; a harder one by public transport

The tourism association puts the hotel about five minutes by car from Hirado Bridge, on the Tabira side. Drivers can pair it with Tabira-area sights before crossing to Hirado Island, or stop on the way back toward Sasebo. That avoids doubling back over the bridge just for a bath.

For rail visitors, the station is close by car but not an easy stroll: the access page estimates a 30–40 minute walk from Tabira-Hiradoguchi Station, with hills along the way. The port-side bus stop is also uphill. The hotel pickup is for overnight guests, not day bathers; confirm a taxi or current bus connection before setting out. The online bus timetable we could verify was dated 2025, so it should not be treated as a 2026 schedule.
