Hinode Onsen in Kohama, Osaka: A Neighbourhood Bath Without a Sauna

Hinode Onsen near Kohama Station has an outdoor bath, medicinal bath and soft-water facilities; its dry and steam saunas closed in December 2024.

Hinode Onsen makes the most sense when you are already around Kohama, Tamade or Sumiyoshi and want a simple bath before the evening is over. It is about two minutes from Tamade Station on the Osaka Metro Yotsubashi Line and charges the Osaka standard adult fare of ¥600. The current listing gives 3–10 p.m. hours with Thursdays off. One free parking space is listed, but it is not something to count on being available.

One old detail can send sauna seekers to the wrong place: the bathhouse used to have dry and steam saunas, but both closed on December 24, 2024. They no longer appear among the Osaka bathhouse association’s current facilities. The remaining mix includes an outdoor bath, medicinal bath, cold bath, electric bath, bubble bath and soft-water shower facilities.

Getting there and choosing the right time

The association lists Hinode Onsen at 2-1-25 Kohama, about three minutes on foot from Nankai Kohama Station. Its current listing gives hours of 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. and a regular Monday closure. A few older directories still show a 2 p.m. opening, so the association’s newer listing is the safer one to plan around.

This is a neighbourhood stop, not a late-night option. Leave enough time to wash and use the baths before closing; arriving near 10 p.m. will not leave room for a relaxed visit. The current association entry does not list on-site parking, so rail is the straightforward choice unless you have checked nearby parking yourself.

What is still open—and what the name does not prove

The listed baths include an outdoor tub, medicinal bath, cold bath, electric bath, bubble bath, a circulating pool and reclining or sitting tubs. The association also identifies soft water for the showers and clinic bath. That is useful if you want a proper wash and a few different tubs, but it is not evidence of a natural hot spring: the current listing does not publish a spring analysis or source data.

The outdoor tub gives you a change of air in a residential neighbourhood. There is no basis for expecting a mountain or waterfront view. The medicinal bath is a bathhouse feature, not a documented natural spring.

The Osaka association’s current standard fare is ¥600 for adults, ¥200 for school-age children and ¥100 for younger children. It does not list a sauna surcharge because the facility is no longer shown as having a sauna. Bring a small towel if you have one; check at the counter for current rental or sales options.

The guide’s own scorecard rates access highly because the station is close, while scenery and quiet score lower: this is a useful neighborhood bath, not a destination for a view. Hinode Onsen is a sensible low-cost choice if you are staying nearby and want the outdoor and functional baths. If sauna access or a confirmed natural source is central to the visit, choose another facility rather than relying on older photos or search snippets. Tattoo admission is not clearly published; ask the bathhouse before setting out if you need to know.
