Wako Bathhouse Near Shin-Imamiya: A 6 a.m. Sento with Free Sauna

Wako Bathhouse near Shin-Imamiya opens at 6 a.m., allows tattoos and includes sauna use at no extra charge. Its garden bath is carbonated water, not onsen.

JR Tennoji Station, a short walk from Wako Bathhouse

Wako Bathhouse is especially useful when Osaka starts early. It opens at 6 a.m., close to the Shin-Imamiya and Tennoji area, and its sauna has no separate use charge. That combination works for someone arriving on an overnight bus, staying nearby, or wanting a bath before sightseeing. Wednesday is the regular closing day.

What “free sauna” means here

The bathhouse has infrared and mist saunas, a cold bath, shallow pool, jet bath and electric bath. Sauna use is included in regular admission, though the operator asks sauna users to bring or use a bath towel for hygiene.

The garden outdoor bath uses artificial carbonated water. It is a leafy corner in the middle of the city, but there is no natural spring analysis published for the facility. The main bath is listed at around 42°C; a shallower bath and massage baths give visitors who prefer less heat another option.

Tattoos are explicitly accepted. There are four free parking spaces and a coin laundry on site.

The early opening and station walks

The bath is at 1-7-6 Sanno, Nishinari Ward, and is open from 6 a.m. to midnight, closing every Wednesday. The operator lists walks of about four minutes from Dobutsuen-mae, six from Tennoji Station or Tennoji-Ekimae, eight from Shin-Imamiya and eleven from Abeno. These are station-to-bath estimates; the actual walk from a particular hotel depends on its entrance and which side of the tracks you are on. The four on-site parking spaces are free, and a coin laundry is available.

There is a small address mismatch across listings: the bathhouse’s own site gives 1-7-6, while the bathhouse association page has used 1-7-10. Search for “Wako Bathhouse” on a current map or call 06-6641-6675 if a navigation pin matters.

For other early or late options around the city, use the Osaka morning and late-night bath guide. If a natural spring is the priority, the Terume Ryugu guide explains the source-water details there.

How this bath scores for a short Osaka stay

The source guide rates Wako highly for comfort (95/100), variety (100), atmosphere (95), access (100) and value (100). Cleanliness is 85 and quietness 50, reflecting a busy city bath rather than a secluded retreat. Those numbers are editorial ratings, not an official inspection score. For an overnight-bus arrival or a day around Shinsekai and Tennoji, the 6 a.m. opening and station options are the practical advantages; anyone seeking a natural spring should choose elsewhere.
