Terume Ryugu or Hikari Nozato? Two Natural Hot Springs in Osaka

Choose Terume Ryugu by Osaka Port for its documented free-flowing outdoor bath, or Hikari Nozato near Tsukamoto and Mitejima for later hours.

Tsukamoto Station platform

Both are neighbourhood sento with natural hot-spring water, but they sit on opposite sides of Osaka and the published details are not identical. A ¥50 admission difference is rarely worth crossing the city for; your hotel or day’s route is the better starting point.

Geography matters more than a ¥50 difference in admission; crossing Osaka for that small gap rarely makes sense.

The spring-water distinction

Terume Ryugu’s bathhouse-association listing is specific about where its spring water goes: the outdoor bath is supplied as free-flowing spring water, and some source water also enters the indoor baths. It does not claim that every tub uses untreated source water.

Hikari Nozato’s listing gives the source depth and alkaline-simple-spring classification. Its current entrance photo displays “natural hot spring, free-flowing” on the sign, but the text does not identify which bath uses that water or explain heating, dilution, circulation or disinfection for each tub. So there is evidence for a free-flowing spring at Hikari Nozato, but not a published bath-by-bath breakdown. If you want to know exactly which bath to use, Terume’s written description is easier to act on.

Morning at the harbour, late evening near Tsukamoto

Terume is the natural fit if you are spending the day around the aquarium, Tempozan or Osaka Port. On Sunday it opens at 8 a.m., early enough for a soak before sightseeing. It is closed every Thursday and closes at 11 p.m. on open days. The bathhouse has two bathing areas on different floors, with dry and steam saunas, an electric bath, cold bath and outdoor bath. There are eight parking spaces.

Hikari Nozato works better from central-west Osaka or the Tsukamoto/Mitejima side. It remains open until midnight, although the high-temperature sauna closes half an hour earlier. Its current bath fare is ¥550, with an additional ¥100 for the high-temperature sauna, according to Osaka City’s January 2026 Nishiyodogawa bathhouse feature. That city listing also gives Tuesday and the third Wednesday as closing days. The bathhouse association page lists Tuesday only, so keep the extra Wednesday closure in your calendar unless the facility posts a change.

Hikari Nozato has dry and steam saunas, a cold bath, carbonated bath, electric bath and rock bath, as well as natural spring water. The association lists 11 parking spaces. Terume’s sauna surcharge is not clearly published in the current association description; ask at the counter rather than assuming the same price as Hikari.

Neither bath has a clearly stated current tattoo policy in the sources used here. Families or visitors who need step-free access should confirm the facility’s rules and layout directly; do not infer either from the bath listings.

For a full profile of each, see the Terume Ryugu guide and the Hikari Nozato guide. The Osaka day-onsen guide compares more of the city’s larger hot-spring options.
