Yao Onsen Kitanoyu: Prices, Opening Hours and What “Artificial Spring” Means

Near Shiki Station, Kitanoyu has an artificial spring, sauna and carbonated bath. Adult entry is ¥900; the optional stone spa costs another ¥900.

Kitanoyu is most useful if you are already travelling through Yao, Kashiwara or the south-eastern side of Osaka. JR Shiki Station is about a five-minute walk away, and the facility lists roughly 300 parking spaces. From central Osaka, it is a separate outing rather than a quick detour from Umeda or Namba.

Hours are usually year-round, with occasional maintenance closures. Seasonal periods can have special pricing. Bath and stone-spa tickets are cash-only, although other parts of the complex accept cashless payment. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash are provided. The ten-visit ticket suits repeat visits; a single adult bath ticket plus the ¥380 towel set totals ¥1,280.

Bath-only admission covers the main bathing area: a high-temperature sauna, cold bath, artificial carbonated bath, hydrogen bath, outdoor tubs and several jet or reclining baths. For a 60–90-minute soak, the standard ticket covers the main facilities.

If you want to use the stone spa, budget at least three hours: the extra ticket gives access to five themed rooms, a women-only medicinal-herb room, stone-spa terrace, heated-floor seating, TV seats and a manga library of around 10,000 volumes. It closes an hour before the main baths and is limited to junior-high-school age and older. Sauna access itself is already part of the main bath ticket, so there is no need to buy stone-spa entry just to use the sauna.

This is an artificial spring, not a natural hot spring

The operator describes the bathing water as an artificial spring. Its “Beauty Bath” is specifically an artificial alkaline simple-spring bath, while the carbonated bath is produced with an artificial carbonation system. The operator does not publish a natural source name or natural-spring analysis for this facility. If your priority is a verified natural source, compare it with Tsurumi Ryokuchi Yu-moto Suisyun or Spa Suminoe instead.

One distinct detail is the ceramic-pot bath, which the operator says looks towards Mount Shigi. It adds a small outdoor view, though this is still a suburban super-sento rather than a mountain-ryokan setting.

Rules that can affect a visit

Kitanoyu refuses entry to guests with tattoos, including tattoo stickers. Mixed-gender bathing is not allowed for children aged seven and over or children at least 120 cm tall. Children below elementary-school age cannot enter alone. Guests under 18, including high-school students, must leave by 10:00 p.m. and be accompanied by a guardian.

For drivers, the facility lists 300 spaces and up to four hours of free parking for bath or stone-spa users. A ¥1,500 purchase in the complex can extend the free period to six hours. Collect the appropriate parking ticket before leaving; the sauna is included with regular bath admission.

The bathing area is energetic rather than quiet, particularly at weekends and after work, when family, gym and sauna visitors overlap. Recent user reviews mostly praise cleaning and spaciousness, though not every report is positive; these are visitor impressions, not inspection records. The guide’s subjective scores are 85/100 for comfort, 95 for variety, 75 for upkeep, 75 for scenery, 50 for quiet, 90 for access and 90 for value. These are planning judgments, not an official grade.

For a city-centre alternative, browse the Osaka day-onsen guide; Kitanoyu is a better fit when the south-eastern location already works for your route.
