Day-Use Onsen in Kumagaya: Hanayu, Yuraku no Sato or Hareniwa?
Compare Kumagaya’s Hanayu, Yuraku no Sato and Hareniwa by spring water, facilities, price and access, including which suits a longer lounge visit.
Kumagaya has three very different places to soak. Hanayu Spa Resort and Kumagaya Yuraku no Sato both use natural hot-spring water, though their bathing systems differ. Ofuro Cafe Hareniwa no Yu is better understood as a long-stay bathhouse and lounge; its current official pages do not identify a natural spring source.
The quick choice
| If you want… | Start with… | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A confirmed spring used without recirculation | Hanayu Spa Resort | The operator says every hot-spring bath uses its own spring water on a 100% free-flow basis. |
| A straightforward hot-spring visit near a train station | Kumagaya Yuraku no Sato | Its outdoor rock bath, pot bath and reclining bath use heated, recirculated spring water; Ishihara Station is about a 10-minute walk away. |
| A place to read, work, play games or stay late | Ofuro Cafe Hareniwa no Yu | The 23-hour facility has a lounge, coworking areas and about 8,000 comics. |
For a closer look at just the two confirmed natural-spring facilities, see the Hanayu and Yuraku no Sato comparison. Hareniwa’s lounges and overnight rules are covered separately in the Hareniwa third-place guide.
Two hot springs, two different ways of using the water
Hanayu draws from its own spring about 1,500 metres underground. Its water is described as golden and sulfur-scented, and the facility says its hot-spring baths are all 100% free-flowing. The published figure of 300 litres per minute refers to the amount used under the prefectural limit, not a measured natural yield.
Yuraku no Sato’s spring comes from 1,385 metres underground. The operator lists a source temperature of 33.3°C and a flow of 250 litres per minute. Its rock bath, single-person pot bath and reclining bath are identified as heated and circulated natural hot-spring water. A source temperature is not the same as the temperature of the bath you enter.
What a visit costs
For a basic adult visit, the posted rates break down like this:
| Facility and admission | Weekday | Weekend / holiday | Other pricing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hanayu Spa Resort, bath entry | ¥950 | ¥1,100 | ¥1,150 on designated special dates |
| Kumagaya Yuraku no Sato, entry | ¥880 | ¥980 | Special rates may apply on selected dates |
| Ofuro Cafe Hareniwa no Yu, free-time entry | ¥1,580 | ¥1,780 | Special-period rates may differ |
Hareniwa’s free-time ticket includes facility clothing, but not towels. Its weekday short-stay plans are cheaper if you do not need a long lounge visit:
| Hareniwa weekday course | 60 minutes | 90 minutes | 120 minutes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Admission | ¥680 | ¥880 | ¥1,080 |
These short-stay plans do not include towels or facility clothing. Weekend and holiday rates for them are ¥100 higher.
Optional extras are separate from admission:
| Add-on | Weekday | Weekend / holiday | Special dates or conditions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hanayu’s Onkatsu Cafe Nest bedrock-bath course | ¥800 | ¥900 | ¥950; junior-high-school age and older. Bath admission is also required. |
| Yuraku no Sato bedrock bath | ¥550 | ¥550 | Includes dedicated clothing and towel; entry ticket required. |
| Hareniwa towel rental | ¥380 | ¥380 | Free-time admission does not include towels. |
| Facility / late visit detail | Published terms |
|---|---|
| Hanayu Spa Resort | 10 a.m.–11 p.m.; last admission 10:30 p.m. |
| Kumagaya Yuraku no Sato | 9 a.m.–midnight; reception ends 11:30 p.m. |
| Hareniwa free-time ticket | 10 a.m.–9 a.m. next day; bath cleaning 2–5 a.m. |
| Hareniwa stay past 2 a.m. | ¥1,540 late-night charge |
The useful time split is two hours versus five. For a short soak, Yuraku’s ¥880 weekday entry is the straightforward low-friction option; Hanayu costs only ¥70 more if its free shuttle and flow-through spring matter to you. Over five hours, Hanayu’s spring plus Onkatsu Cafe Nest or Hareniwa’s lounge become meaningful. Hareniwa can be a better long-stay purchase if you want comics, board games, coworking and free coffee rather than a spring-focused visit.
Hareniwa’s long opening hours do not mean continuous bath access. Hanayu’s last listed free shuttle back to Kumagaya leaves at 9:30 p.m., well before the facility closes. A September 2026 special-price period has passed; check current notices for future busy dates rather than assuming the regular weekend fee.
Getting there
Hanayu runs a free shuttle from the north exit of Kumagaya Station. The last listed return to the station leaves at 9:30 p.m., earlier than the facility’s 11 p.m. closing time. Yuraku no Sato is about a 10-minute walk from Chichibu Railway’s Ishihara Station. Hareniwa is about a 20-minute walk (1.6 km) from JR Kagohara Station; buses from Kumagaya Station take about 35 minutes to Takayanagi, followed by a five-minute walk.
Those routes can matter more than a small difference in admission. For detailed last-mile options and late return planning, use the Kumagaya onsen without a car guide. If the arrival time is the main constraint, the late-night bathing guide separates bath hours from lounge hours.
All three facilities currently refuse entry to guests with tattoos; Yuraku also includes tattoo-cover stickers in its prohibition. Hareniwa states that it will not admit intoxicated guests. Children’s access also varies: Hanayu’s bedrock-bath course is for junior-high-school age and older and it refuses guests wearing diapers; Yuraku has a height-based opposite-sex bathing rule and limits bedrock bathing to junior-high-school age and older; Hareniwa’s free-time ticket and short plans differ in what clothing is included. Check the facility’s current visitor rules before travelling with children or if a restriction affects your plans.
