Tendo Onsen Day Use: Four Places to Compare

Compare Tendo’s ¥350 Hanakomaso with three ryokan baths by hours, access and facilities. Choose by rest areas, outdoor bathing or step-free access.

Checked: September 27, 2026

Tendo Onsen is easy to reach from the shinkansen station, but its day-use options are not interchangeable. Hanakomaso is a municipal bathing and rest facility. The three ryokan—Tendo Hotel, Hohoemi no Yado Takinoyu and Sakaeya Hotel—offer shorter bathing windows, and some of their best-known features are reserved for overnight guests.

FacilityAdult day-use priceCurrent day-use hoursUseful distinction
Hanakomaso¥3509:00 am–9:00 pm; last entry 8:30 pmLowest price; free lounge and reservable rest rooms

Hohoemi no Yado Takinoyu¥1,000Reception 11:30 am–2:30 pmLarge public baths, small outdoor baths and accessible amenities
Sakaeya Hotel¥80011:00 am–3:00 pmFirst-floor public bath; rooftop view bath is not open to day visitors

Prices and schedules can change, and ryokan may suspend day use for maintenance or private events. Check the operator’s notice or call on the day, especially if the trip is built around one specific bath.

Hanakomaso: the easy budget choice if you want to linger

Hanakomaso is a city-run health and welfare facility that also welcomes general visitors. Its bathing fee includes admission.

The accessible baths have a specific purpose: they are intended for visitors who need assistance or cannot use the standard bath comfortably, including some families with young children. They are not advertised as general private baths for any group, and advance application is required.

From Tendo Station, take the Tendo-Sagae bus to Shinoda Hospital-mae or book the DOMOSU shared taxi. The facility is north of the three ryokan around Kamata-honcho.

Tendo Hotel: the clearest first visit, with a timing catch

Tendo Hotel day usePublished terms
Admission¥1,000 from elementary-school age; younger children free
Bath hours11:30 a.m.–3 p.m.; no advance booking listed
TowelsFace towel ¥110; bath-towel rental ¥220

The waterfall beside the open-air bath runs only from the end of weekday day use, but is on during weekend and holiday bathing hours. The sauna opens after ordinary day use, so it is not included in a standard visit.

FeatureOperating time
WaterfallFrom 3 p.m. weekdays; from 11:30 a.m. weekends and public holidays
SaunaOpens at 4 p.m., after ordinary day use

Tendo Hotel is about four minutes by car from the station’s east exit. Its free station shuttle is for overnight guests with advance reservation; the hotel says day-use bathers do not get that pickup. Public-bath information states that guests with tattoos are welcome. The hotel has posted day-use closures on its news page, so check for a date-specific notice before travelling.

Takinoyu: room to move and more accessible equipment

Takinoyu day usePublished terms

The operator lists baby bath equipment, a changing-area cot and other accessibility features, and explicitly allows visitors with tattoos.

Bath areaPublished detail
Combined public bath areaAbout 1,000 m², with a small outdoor bath on each side

Do not confuse the public bath with the garden’s private bath, Yuan. That one is described as 100% source-flowing and is for overnight guests by reservation; it is not an add-on to the day-use ticket. Takinoyu is about a 15-minute walk or five-minute drive from JR Tendo Station, and its official access page lists free parking for 200 cars. The site’s free shuttle requires advance contact; confirm whether it is available to day visitors rather than assuming it is.

Sakaeya Hotel: spring handling over the rooftop view

Sakaeya day usePublished terms
AdmissionAdults ¥800; children ¥400
Hours11 a.m.–3 p.m.

The hotel says the first-floor bath is used without dilution or heating. Source measurements do not describe the public-bath temperature or flow, and the exact blend supplied to the bath is not published.

The hotel’s access page gives two ways to reach the property from Tendo Station; day-use weekday rules differ between its current onsen page and older information. Call before visiting, particularly on a weekend or holiday, and check for maintenance closures.

Which one fits your day?

Choose Hanakomaso if price and having somewhere to sit afterward matter most. It has the longest bathing window, though the bus timetable or a car makes the northern location easier.

Tendo Hotel is a straightforward first stop if you want a hotel-style bath and outdoor pool. Visit on a weekend if the running waterfall is important; the sauna starts too late for ordinary day visitors.

Takinoyu is the strongest choice for a larger bathing space, accessibility equipment or a clearly stated tattoo policy. Check Wednesdays and same-day closure notices.

Pick Sakaeya for its stated no-dilution, no-heating approach—not for the rooftop view bath, which is reserved for overnight guests. Since its day-use rules are not fully synchronized across pages, a quick call is sensible.

If your route continues west through the prefecture, compare Semi-no-Yu in Semi Onsen or the public baths in Akayu Onsen.
