Ryokan Kisen Day Use: Book First, Then Confirm When the Bath Opens
Ryokan Kisen requires a phone booking for day bathing; confirm its noon-or-later opening, ¥1,300 adult fee and towel rental before going.
Checked: September 27, 2026
Kisen is a small-scale alternative to Isawa’s larger hotel baths: the draw is an indoor onsen, an open-air bath looking onto the garden and a traditional inn setting. It is not a turn-up-and-buy-a-ticket stop, though. The inn asks day visitors to reserve by phone, and the bath only opens to them after the morning cleaning is complete.
The opening time has a one-hour discrepancy
| Kisen day use | Published terms |
|---|---|
| Kisen FAQ hours | 11 a.m.–6 p.m., subject to cleaning being complete |
| Inn Association hours | Noon–6 p.m. |
| Adult admission | ¥1,300, face towel included |
| Child admission | ¥850 |
| Bath-towel rental | ¥350 |
| Adult plus bath-towel rental | ¥1,650 |
Use noon as the safer start. If arriving at 11, ask Kisen when reserving whether cleaning will be finished. The inn does not give a pool-by-pool water-treatment breakdown. It identifies an alkaline simple spring and says washbasin taps and showers use the onsen; this does not mean every bath is untreated and free-flowing.
The garden-facing outdoor bath is the reason to allow more than a quick stop. Kisen also offers a private bath called Hōyū for ¥3,300 per 50-minute session, by reservation. Its general bath page describes this as a reservable amenity, but does not clearly promise day-use access. Ask about eligibility during the same call rather than assuming it can be added to a day ticket.
Walk, taxi or request a pickup?
From Isawa-Onsen Station, the inn lists about 20 minutes on foot or three minutes by taxi. Its free shuttle is timed for overnight guests—pickups from 3–8 pm and morning drop-offs at 9 or 9:50—so it does not line up neatly with a noon day-use arrival. The inn says visitors can call for a pickup, but the day-use service is not explicitly guaranteed. Confirm before relying on it.
For a more spontaneous stop, the Isawa day-use guide compares baths with different admission arrangements. Kisen is best planned around the reservation and cleaning time rather than fitted in at the last minute.
