Shimobe Onsen Day Trip: Three Baths, Two Very Different Routes
Compare three Shimobe day baths: two sit by Shimobe-Onsen Station, while Fuji Hotel has a roughly 26°C source bath and needs a walk or arranged pickup.
Checked: September 27, 2026
“Shimobe Onsen” covers more than one walkable street. Two day-use facilities sit beside Shimobe-Onsen Station; Fuji Hotel is farther along the valley. If you are relying on the Minobu Line, that difference matters more than the town name.
| Facility | Published day-use terms | What stands out | Access |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shimobe Hotel | 11 am–3 pm; ¥1,500 adult, ¥750 child; closed Tuesdays | The hotel lists two source waters and 12 baths; yukata and bath towel rentals cost extra | About one minute on foot from Shimobe-Onsen Station |
| Fuji Hotel | 9 am–8 pm; ¥800 for up to two hours, ¥1,000 up to three hours with the lounge | A roughly 26°C source-flowing bath alongside a warmed version; sauna runs 10 am–8 pm | About ten minutes on foot from Hakatashima Station, or arrange a pickup |
| Healthy Spa Sunroad Shimobe no Yu | 10 am–10 pm weekdays; 9:30 am–10 pm weekends and holidays; last entry 9 pm | Two spring types, sauna, outdoor bath, walking pool, restaurant and rest area | About one minute on foot from Shimobe-Onsen Station |
Short bathing window or broad day-spa facilities?
Shimobe Hotel retains the traditional-inn setting and has a shorter public-bathing window. Shimobe no Yu stays open later and has restaurant, massage and rest-area facilities.
| Facility | Hours and closure | Bathing details | Extras and admission |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shimobe Hotel | 11 a.m.–3 p.m.; Tuesday is the regular closing day | The hotel lists 12 baths using two source waters | Yukata rental ¥330; bath towel ¥300 |
| Shimobe no Yu | Longer day-use hours | Adult entry for visitors from outside Minobu Town includes the bathing tax | Adult ¥1,250; child below junior-high age ¥380; free outdoor footbath |
The adult rate at Shimobe no Yu changed on April 1, 2026. Older brochures showing ¥930 plus tax are out of date. A local tourism listing gives a different count of the Shimobe Hotel baths and sources; the table follows the hotel’s own day-use page.
Fuji Hotel suits a slower soak
Fuji Hotel’s day-use page lists a single cool source at about 26°C and a separate pool warmed from that source. The outdoor bath uses the source water, but the hotel notes that bad weather or cold conditions can make it unavailable. Its Finnish-style sauna is open from 10 am, an hour after day-use bathing begins. That is useful to know if the sauna is the main reason for coming early.
The hotel is not at the station forecourt. Its access page gives about a ten-minute walk from Hakatashima Station; the hotel also says guests may arrange a pickup from Hakatashima or Shimobe-Onsen Station in advance. Check the current monthly closing calendar before you travel: the regular closure includes Mondays and the fourth Tuesday, with an additional Tuesday closure in months that have a fifth week.
If you are not driving
The simplest train-based plan is to choose Shimobe Hotel or Shimobe no Yu, then leave enough time for the Minobu Line connection. Fuji Hotel is still possible, but only if the walk or a pickup is part of the plan. Trying to walk between all three treats a spread-out valley like a compact town and can eat into the short hotel-bath hours.
The source-water figures for Shimobe’s municipal high-temperature spring were updated by Minobu Town in May 2026: 48.4°C, 180 litres per minute and pH 9.4. Shimobe no Yu’s operator page still displays an older 49.4°C figure; that is an earlier analysis, not a separate measurement to average with the town’s update. For another rural pair of baths with different water and facility layouts, see the Hokuto comparison.
