Karin no Yu for Couples: Where You Can Actually Spend Time Together
Check Karin no Yu’s 9 p.m.–midnight tattoo window, cover rules and admission terms. The shared sauna requires clothing; baths remain gender-separated.
Updated September 2026
At Ofulo Café Karin no Yu, couples still use separate men’s and women’s baths. The shared part comes afterwards: Sauna Garden is a clothing-required, mixed-gender area where you can meet again for a large loyly sauna, cooling and a break. That distinction matters if you are looking for a shared bathing pool; this is not one.
The communal Sauna Garden sauna is designed for more than 30 people and uses EOS Zeus / Zeus L sauna heaters. Guests need to wear swimwear or the facility’s indoor clothing. You can bring your own swimwear, rent it for ¥500, or choose a Free Time plan that includes indoor clothing. The gender-separated bathing areas have their own saunas and the natural spring bath.
The spring is real; the shared sauna is a separate experience
Karin no Yu draws its natural spring from about 1,500 metres underground. The water is classified as an iron- and iodine-bearing sodium-chloride strong saline spring. The facility says it adjusts the bath water to 41°C; that is the bathing temperature, not the spring’s temperature at the source.
This makes the visit easy to split naturally: each person can spend as long as they like in their own bathing area, then meet in Sauna Garden. There is also dining and a shared lounge area, so different bathing speeds do not have to dictate when the whole group leaves.
Choose the ticket around the time you want together
The 120-minute adult plan costs ¥950 on weekdays and ¥1,390 on weekends and public holidays. It does not include towels or indoor clothing. If both of you already have swimwear and only want a short bath plus one shared sauna session, it is the leaner option. Renting a towel set costs ¥420; swimwear rental is ¥500 per person.
Free Time costs ¥1,280 on weekdays and ¥1,980 on weekends and public holidays. It includes indoor clothing but not towels, and allows you to use the shared area without renting swimwear. A weekday bath, shared sauna, meal and proper rest fit this plan better than a stopwatch visit. If you only want the spring, the shorter ticket is enough.
Aufguss sessions are generally held daily at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., though special events can change the schedule. Check the latest event updates if a particular session matters to your plan.
Plan around the tattoo time window
Karin no Yu currently sets aside Tattoo Friendly Time from 9 p.m. to midnight. Before 9 p.m., guests with tattoos cannot use the baths or the shared sauna, even if the tattoos are covered; anyone entering earlier must keep tattoos concealed with clothing, a supporter or a cover sticker. The operator says the policy may be reviewed if guests do not follow the rules, so check the latest tattoo notice before setting a late-evening plan.
Karin no Yu sits within THE FARM in Katori, not beside a city station. Guests can drive, take a highway bus from Tokyo to Kurimoto and use the resort’s free shuttle, or take a limited route bus from Narita Airport Terminal 2. The bus services run only a few times a day; check the access page and match the return trip before buying tickets.
For couples, Karin no Yu is most compelling when the shared sauna and time together are part of the outing. If the goal is simply to bathe side by side, its main baths remain gender-separated.
