Sumire no Yu: An Early-Opening Onsen in Ibaraki, Osaka

Plan a Sumire no Yu visit in Ibaraki, Osaka: adult and child fares, weekend morning hours, free-flowing bath, sauna, jjimjilbang and access.

Sumire no Yu is a handy option in northern Osaka when you want a proper soak before the day gets going—or after most places have closed. It opens at 9 a.m. on weekdays and 6 a.m. on weekends and public holidays, then stays open until 2 a.m. The main draw is a designated free-flowing natural-spring bath, with a wide mix of other tubs and a separate Korean-style heated-room area.

Hours and prices

AdmissionWeekdaysWeekends and holidays
Adult bath¥900¥1,000
Child, age 5 through elementary school¥450¥500
Child, age 3–4¥150¥150
Age 2 and underFreeFree
Adult jjimjilbang add-on¥800¥900

On weekdays, the bathhouse is open from 9 a.m. until 2 a.m.; on weekends and public holidays, it opens at 6 a.m. Last admission is 1 a.m. It is open year-round apart from occasional equipment-inspection closures.

Face and bath towels rent for ¥120 and ¥180 respectively; the pair costs ¥250. Shampoo, conditioner and body wash are supplied. Jjimjilbang admission is separate, and children under three may not use that area.

With both towels, an adult visit totals ¥1,150 on a weekday or ¥1,250 on a weekend.

Selected dates have a lower “Sumire Day” rate; check the date-specific schedule before you go.

One confirmed free-flowing bath, not thirteen natural springs

There are 13 types of bath. The “Source Spring Bath” draws water from about 1,000 metres underground and is free-flowing. Other outdoor baths use natural hot-spring water; the carbonated bath uses deep groundwater with added carbon dioxide. The remaining tubs include regular heated water, electric baths, jets and a cold plunge.

Sumire has one designated free-flowing spring bath alongside natural-spring outdoor tubs and baths with different water treatments.

Sauna and heated rooms

The bathing area has a low-temperature herbal steam sauna and a far-infrared sauna. Loyly sessions and other special events vary by date, so check the event calendar if you are aiming for one.

The separate “Soukenbi-kan” jjimjilbang is a clothing-on heated-room spa. It is an add-on, not part of ordinary bath admission. The rooms, cooling space and lounge make it better suited to a longer stop than a quick visit. If all you want is the baths and sauna, there is no reason to pay extra for it.

A short walk from Toyokawa Station

Osaka Monorail's Toyokawa Station is about a five-minute walk away. Head north from the station, turn at Shimizu crossing and continue a short distance. There is no shuttle bus service.

There is free parking for drivers. If you are already around Expo ’70 Commemorative Park or the Saito area, Sumire fits naturally into the day. From central Osaka, check the train connections first; station proximity does not remove the need to get onto the Saito Line.

Tattoo policy and other practical notes

Tattoos are not permitted, regardless of size or location, and cover stickers are not an exception. Rules at other bathhouses—even other branches—may differ.

The bathing area is separated by gender. The jjimjilbang is a shared, clothing-on space where friends or couples can spend time together outside the bath. Child admission varies by age; check the price table before bringing a young child.

Early starts and long evenings

Sumire suits an early weekend soak, a late finish after a day in northern Osaka, or a half-day visit that includes both bathing and the heated rooms. Bath-only admission covers the main tubs and sauna. Travellers looking for a small inn or a private bath for two will need another option.
