Shio-no-Yu vs OU Land: Which Kaike Onsen Fits Your Visit?
Compare Kaike’s Shio-no-Yu and OU Land by opening time, current admission, sea views, sauna access, family baths and bathing-water treatment.
Both use sodium-calcium chloride hot-spring water from separate source tanks, but the visit feels different. Shio-no-Yu is part of Bayside Square Kaike Hotel, facing the coast; OU Land is a larger bathing and leisure complex with family rooms, a sauna and an on-site dining area. Choose by the time you want to bathe and who needs to share the water—not by the lowest number on the price board alone.
| Shio-no-Yu | OU Land | |
|---|---|---|
| Best reason to go | Sea-facing open-air bath and early-morning hours | More bath types, sauna option and private family rooms |
| Day-use opening | 6–10 a.m. and 11 a.m.–11 p.m. | 10 a.m.–11 p.m.; final reception at 10:30 p.m. |
| Adult admission | ¥400 weekday / ¥500 weekend or holiday, 6–10 a.m.; ¥700 / ¥800 from 11 a.m. | ¥550 basic bath; ¥800 with sauna |
| Private bathing | Not its day-use format | Four family-bath types, including a care bath |
| Bring your own | Shampoo, conditioner and body wash are provided; towels are rented | Soap, shampoo and towels are not provided in the main baths |
| Tattoos | Day-use guests with tattoos are not admitted | Guests with tattoos are not admitted |
Shio-no-Yu also has a one-hour cleaning break from 10 to 11 a.m. Its morning session does not include the sauna or cold bath. OU Land’s third Monday opening is delayed until noon; when that Monday falls on a holiday, check the facility’s current notice for the adjusted day.
Shio-no-Yu: a view and an early start
The open-air baths look out toward the Sea of Japan, and the shoreline is about a 30-second walk away. The early session suits visitors who want to bathe before sightseeing; sauna and cold bath are unavailable, and cleaning starts at 10 a.m.
| Session or item | Details |
|---|---|
| Early bath | 6–10 a.m.; ¥400 weekdays / ¥500 weekends and holidays; no sauna or cold bath |
| Regular bath | 11 a.m.–11 p.m.; ¥700 weekdays / ¥800 weekends and holidays; indoor and open-air baths, sauna and cold bath included |
| Towels | Face towel ¥100 to rent; bath towel ¥200 to rent |
| Wash products | Shampoo, conditioner and body wash supplied |
The one-hour cleaning break between sessions makes the early option less useful for a late start.
The separate Korean-style low-temperature stone sauna, Hanpatsu-bo, includes bathing, towels and relax wear. It is an add-on experience, distinct from the sauna included with regular admission.
| Hanpatsu-bo day-use rate | Price |
|---|---|
| Weekday | ¥1,400 |
| Weekend or holiday | ¥1,500 |
OU Land: more choice, with add-ons to price in
OU Land has indoor and outdoor baths, jet baths and carbonated water. The men’s and women’s sides switch each Monday, so check which layout is open if that affects your visit.
| Day-use detail | Rate or hours |
|---|---|
| Main bath | 10 a.m.–11 p.m.; final admission 10:30 p.m. |
| Bath only | ¥550 |
| Bath with sauna | ¥800 |
| Main-bath amenities | Soap, shampoo and towels sold separately |
The sauna ticket costs more than Shio-no-Yu’s weekday regular admission; carrying your own wash kit keeps the bath-only visit inexpensive.
OU Land’s private family rooms run for 50 or 70 minutes, depending on type. The care bath has the longer session, which can help when someone needs assistance. Extra guests cost more, and reception may close early.
| Family-bath type | Session | Rate for 1–2 people |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | 50 minutes | ¥2,300 |
| Bubble or care bath | 70 minutes | ¥2,700 |
| Open-air bubble bath | 50 minutes | ¥3,300 |
Reserve ahead if a particular time matters; the rooms are separate from main-bath admission.
OU Land heats, circulates and filters the main-bath water and disinfects it with chlorine. Its family-bath water is diluted for temperature adjustment but is not heated, circulated or disinfected. Shio-no-Yu circulates and filters its baths, adding fresh spring water intermittently. These are different water-management systems, even though both facilities use natural hot-spring water.
Getting there and checking the last bus
Both facilities are in Kaike Onsen and can be reached from Yonago by local bus, but they are not side-by-side. Check the current stop and return service against your itinerary. The Kaike day-use onsen guide compares these baths with ryokan day-use options; the Bayside Square Kaike stay guide covers the hotel beside Shio-no-Yu.
