Batten no Yu or Agannasse? Kumamoto City’s Natural Hot Springs in Autumn 2026
Compare Batten no Yu's late hours and family baths with Agannasse's sauna and lounge. Check the 2026 renovation dates before planning a visit.
Summary: Batten no Yu is the better fit for a late visit or a family bath; Agannasse works better for a longer spa session with sauna and rest areas. Its renovation changes what is available from September 28 to December 6, 2026.
Checked: September 27, 2026
For a natural hot spring in Kumamoto City, the practical comparison this autumn is between Batten no Yu and Agannasse. The former Tsurunoyu near Kumamoto Inter closed on August 31 and is in renovation; it is scheduled to reopen as Kame-no-Yu by HATAGO INN on November 1. That future opening should not be counted as an option for a September or October visit.
| Batten no Yu | Agannasse | |
|---|---|---|
| Best fit | Late bathing, family baths | Sauna, longer stay, lounge and rock-bath plans |
| Public-bath hours | 10:00 a.m.–2:00 a.m. | 10:00 a.m.–midnight |
| Basic adult admission | ¥750; ¥550 with your own shampoo and conditioner | Two hours: ¥800 weekdays, ¥900 weekends/holidays |
| Getting home late | Check transport; taxi or car may be needed | Closes earlier, but still check the last connection |
Choose Batten no Yu for a late soak or private family bath
Batten no Yu, near Lake Ezu, is open until 2:00 a.m. Its public bath includes nine types of bathing area, and the facility lists 15 family-bath rooms across the main building and Manyokan annex. The family baths are a separate product: confirm room availability, duration and price before travelling.
The adult public-bath rate is ¥750. Bringing your own shampoo and conditioner reduces admission to ¥550, but towels and other items may add to the cost. This is a useful lower rate for someone already carrying bathing supplies, not a universal walk-in price.
The late closing time comes with a transport caveat. Buses will not necessarily match the bath’s 2:00 a.m. closing, so decide how you will return before you go. If you are staying near the city centre, the taxi fare may matter more than the difference between admission plans.
Choose Agannasse when bathing is the main event
Agannasse, in northern Kumamoto, is better set up for spending several hours indoors. The two-hour admission covers its public bath and sauna. Longer “Free Course” plans include more of the facility’s lounge amenities; the rock-bath course is a separate option. Weekday two-hour admission is ¥800, rising to ¥900 on weekends and public holidays.
Renovation runs from September 28 through December 6, 2026. The reclining corner and Oku-zashiki rest area are closed, the three-hour admission plan is suspended, and the facility has announced ¥300 discounts on its free-stay plans. The basic two-hour rate remains unchanged. If you are going during the works, compare the discounted ticket with the areas you actually plan to use.
What changes in November?
Kame-no-Yu by HATAGO INN is scheduled to open at the former Tsurunoyu site on November 1. Published pre-opening details advertise adult day admission at ¥550 and indoor-bath hours from 6:00 a.m. to midnight, with sauna hours ending at 10:00 p.m. Those figures are not yet operating experience. Recheck them after opening before making a morning or sauna-focused plan.
The citywide onsen and sento guide covers the smaller bathhouses and other facilities. For a timing-based choice, see the early-morning and late-night guide.
