B/C Hotel Kusatsu: A Practical Guide to the Baths, Shuttle and Breakfast

Check B/C Hotel Kusatsu’s guest-only baths, one alternating sauna, breakfast slots, dog rules and temporary shuttle stop before booking.

This is a better fit for people who value a long public-bath window, transport help and pet facilities than for anyone seeking a private soak. Children’s eligibility and the hotel’s tattoo rules for the public baths were not clearly stated in the information checked; confirm them directly if either is a deciding factor.

The public baths are the main onsen benefit

The guest guide lists an indoor bath and an open-air bath for overnight guests, open from 1 pm until 10 am the next day. The source is diluted to bring its high temperature down. Heating is used in the indoor bath year-round and in the outdoor bath during winter. The water is not recirculated and filtered, but this is not a “no water added, no heating” spring.

Bath detailCurrent information checked September 8, 2026
Natural springYes, in the guest-only public baths
Indoor and outdoor bathsBoth listed in the men’s and women’s bathing areas
Added waterYes, to adjust the hot source temperature
HeatingIndoor bath year-round; outdoor bath in winter
Recirculation and filtrationNot used, according to the guest guide
Day-use bathingListed as “in preparation”; do not plan on walk-in access

The public bathing areas are open for an unusually long stretch, with 10 am–1 pm reserved for cleaning. No fixed overnight closure is listed, but follow the current signs at the hotel.

There is one sauna, and access alternates

The hotel lists one sauna with room for eight, shared between the men’s and women’s sides by time slot. It is open 1–11 pm and 6–10 am. Check the notice by the bath entrance to see which side can use it that day; the property does not have a separate sauna for each side.

Children below elementary-school age cannot use the sauna. Guests should also avoid it after drinking or when feeling unwell. A family stay does not mean everyone can use the sauna together, so check the schedule if it is central to your booking.

Room bathrooms are not confirmed spring baths

Booking listings may show a private bathroom or bathtub among a room’s amenities. The hotel guide confirms natural spring water in the first-floor public baths, but does not identify any guest-room tub as an onsen. Choose by bed setup, occupancy, room size and pet rules—not on the assumption that a bathroom means a private spring bath.

There is no confirmed bookable private bath either. If you cannot use a public bath and need natural spring water in private, look for a property that explicitly names a guest-room onsen or open-air spring bath.

Shuttle service: a temporary stop change matters

The hotel is roughly a ten-minute walk from Kusatsu Onsen Bus Terminal and offers a free shuttle on a first-come, first-served basis; advance booking is not required. Because of nearby construction, the current guest notice says the shuttle cannot go to Yubatake and instead runs between the hotel and the bus terminal. This is a temporary arrangement, not the usual permanent route.

The hotel timetable lists departures at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m., then hourly from 3:30 to 9:30 p.m. Return buses leave about ten minutes later. Traffic and construction can affect the schedule; check the hotel’s latest notice before setting out. At other times, walk or use local transport.

There are free parking spaces on site, but they are first-come, first-served. If the lot is full, guests need to use paid parking near Yubatake. The shuttle is useful for avoiding the hill with bags, but it does not guarantee a parking space or a direct Yubatake drop-off during construction.

Breakfast is free, but a seat is not automatic

The simple breakfast is complimentary and served in four sittings: 6:30–7:10, 7:20–8:00, 8:10–8:50 and 9:00–9:40. It is advance-reservation and first-come, first-served. You need your room number, so reserve after check-in; each morning of a multi-night stay needs a separate booking.

If you have an early bus, aim for one of the first sittings. A 9 am slot may not leave enough time to walk to the terminal and make a connection. “Free breakfast included” is useful only if the remaining slot fits your departure.

Travelling with a dog

B/C Hotel accepts some dogs and has a guest-only dog park. The listed limits are up to two small dogs, each about 7 kg or under, or one medium dog around 7–14 kg. Large dogs are not accepted for stays or use of the dog park. Dogs need current vaccinations and must be on a lead or carried in a bag inside.

Do not rely on a general “pets allowed” badge. Confirm that the room you are booking accepts your dog’s size and that the hotel’s current conditions match your plans.

The site’s seven-point ratings are: bathing comfort 90, bath variety 85, cleanliness and maintenance 90, atmosphere 75, quiet 80, transport convenience 90 and overall value 95. The score profile reflects a practical hotel whose draw is the public bath, shuttle, breakfast, sauna and pet facilities—not a view-focused room or a private onsen.

When B/C Hotel makes sense

Choose it if you expect to use the shared spring baths and sauna, are comfortable with water-temperature adjustment, and can make use of the shuttle, breakfast or dog park. Look elsewhere if you need an in-room natural spring bath, a reservable private bath, a published source analysis sheet or a hotel entrance directly beside Yubatake.
