Cosmos Onsen in Kobayashi: Two Hot Baths at ¥500

Check Cosmos Onsen in Kobayashi for its two hot natural-spring pools, ¥500 adult admission, 10 a.m.–9 p.m. hours and Thursday closure.

Checked: September 27, 2026

Cosmos Onsen does not need a long list of facilities to make its case. The main reason to go is the water: the Kyushu Onsen Road listing describes a high-temperature source used as a 100% free-flowing spring, with one bath around 42°C and another around 45°C. That hotter pool is properly hot, not just a slightly warmer option.

Current admission and hours

The city’s current facility directory was updated on May 8, 2026. Admission is:

How hot is 45°C?

The two pool temperatures describe the bathing water, not the temperature of the spring as it comes from underground. Start with the 42°C pool if you are unsure how you handle hot baths. You do not need to stay in the 45°C pool for long to understand why regulars call this a high-temperature bath.

Take breaks outside the water and leave if you feel unwell. Age, fatigue, hydration and health all affect heat tolerance, so a fixed “safe number of minutes” would not fit everyone. People who prefer a long, mild soak may be happier at another bath.

The listing classifies the spring as bicarbonate water. Its exact current source temperature is not published alongside the 42°C and 45°C pool figures; avoid treating those pool readings as measurements of the source.

Getting there

Cosmos Onsen is at 1130-79 Minaminishikata, Kobayashi. The Kyushu Onsen Road lists a taxi ride of about 12 minutes from JR Kobayashi Station and a five-minute drive from Kobayashi Interchange. For most visitors, a rental car or a shared taxi makes more sense than travelling from the station just to spend ¥500 on admission.

The location can fit a drive around Ikoma Kogen or the Kobayashi area, but the bath is not inside the flower park. Set your navigation to the bath’s street address rather than searching only for “Cosmos,” which can point to other nearby places.

A plain bathhouse, not a spa day

There is no need to come expecting a resort complex. The current city directory and Kyushu Onsen Road focus on the baths themselves; they do not list a sauna, large outdoor bathing area or bookable family bath. A day-rest option is available for people who want to stay longer, but check how it works before planning to use it as a private room.

If a sauna and several bathing features matter more than spring water, compare the Bijin-no-yu public bath and family baths or the forest-side Kajika-no-Yu guide. Cosmos is the simpler choice when you want a low-cost local bath and are comfortable with the higher temperatures.
