Ryusuien Day-Use Onsen in Sakihana: ¥600, Long Hours and a Call-Ahead Rule
Ryusuien’s day bath costs ¥600 and is listed 9 a.m.–8:30 p.m. It closes irregularly, so call ahead; check what the inn confirms about towels and bath access.
Ryusuien is on the hillside side of Sakihana’s road, in a district better known for larger inns along the Agano River. Its appeal is more modest: a ten-room Japanese-style inn, a source-fed bath described as hot, and a listed adult day-use fee of ¥600. The long bathing window is useful, but it is not a walk-in guarantee. The Sakihana day-bath comparison shows how its simple setup differs from the riverside and private-bath options nearby.
The ¥600 day ticket has a broad window, with one important condition
The Gosen Tourism Association lists adult day bathing at ¥600 between 9 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. The inn closes on irregular days, and visitors are asked to call before setting out. No separate last-entry time is published, so ask how late the bath is accepting day visitors; do not treat 8:30 p.m. as a guaranteed arrival cutoff.
| Day-use detail | Published information |
|---|---|
| Adult admission | ¥600 |
| Listed day-use hours | 9 a.m.–8:30 p.m. |
| Closing days | Irregular; call the inn before visiting |
| Last entry | Not separately listed; confirm by phone |
| Address | 7241 Satori, Gosen, Niigata |
| Parking | 25 passenger-car spaces |
The same tourism-association page has a separate general-hours field that reads “9:00–8:30,” alongside a note that bathing is available around the clock. The dedicated day-use entry is clearer for visitors who are not staying overnight: it specifies 9 a.m.–8:30 p.m. Use that window for a day trip and ask the inn directly if you need to arrive outside it.
“24-hour bathing” is not the day-use schedule
The association page also says guests can bathe 24 hours. It lists room-only and breakfast plans for overnight guests, but no dinner plan. That general description does not replace the separate hours published for day visitors. If you are not staying at the inn, plan around the 9 a.m.–8:30 p.m. day-use entry and call first, especially for an evening visit.
What “source-fed” confirms—and what it does not
Ryusuien describes its bath as a natural, source-fed spring; the inn and tourism association also note that the water can look emerald green. Neither publishes a measured tub temperature, so treat “hot” as a general description rather than a specific reading.
Gosen City gives 54°C as the temperature for Sakihana Onsen as a whole. Ryusuien’s listing names no well and gives no separate bath analysis, so that figure is regional context—not a measured temperature for Ryusuien’s tub.
A small Showa-era inn, not a large spa
The association lists ten Japanese-style rooms and describes a quiet, Showa-era atmosphere. The property sits across the road from the riverside inns, slightly uphill, with trees—including maples—around the guest rooms. Autumn colour is part of the setting; the main reason to visit, though, is the bath rather than a long list of facilities.
Overnight guests can book a room-only or breakfast plan. The association says dinner is not available. That matters if you are considering an evening stay: arrange dinner elsewhere before arriving, particularly if you are travelling without a car.
Reaching the inn and protecting the return journey
JR Sakihana Station is in the small onsen district; Rakuten Travel lists Ryusuien at about a three-minute walk from the station and roughly 10 minutes by car from the Yasuda interchange. The inn is uphill from the road, so the last stretch may feel different with wheeled luggage or limited mobility. The tourism association lists parking for 25 passenger cars.
Train frequency is the part to check before bathing. Look up the return service first, then call Ryusuien to confirm it is open and accepting day visitors that day. If you arrive late, leave time for the walk back to the station and do not assume that a long opening window means a late train will be available. The Sakihana car-free half-day guide covers the wider station and bus options.
Towels, children and private bathing need a phone call
For day visitors, Ryusuien does not list a complete towel or amenity package, child rates, tattoo rules, or guaranteed access to a private or outdoor bath. Bring a towel and basic toiletries, and ask about children’s prices and bathing access before setting out; another Sakihana inn’s rates and family-bath rules may differ.
If a private bath, an outdoor pool or a specific tattoo arrangement is essential, confirm that exact option before travelling. The published ¥600 fee should be treated as the price of the listed day bath, not proof that extra facilities are included.
When Ryusuien is the right stop
Ryusuien suits visitors who want a straightforward hot-spring bath and do not need a spa-style facility, an on-site dinner or amenities that are not listed for day visitors. A later arrival can work if the inn confirms admission and the return train still fits.
Choose another Sakihana inn if you want a confirmed river-facing bath, a private-use option, more facilities or dinner on site. Compare current conditions in the Sakihana budget-inn guide and the late-arrival guide; the Hekisuiso day-bath guide covers a riverside alternative. Confirm current prices and day-use acceptance directly before departure.
