Sakihana Onsen Day Baths: How to Choose Between Six Ryokan

All six Sakihana inns offer day bathing, but hours and availability vary. Compare fees and bathing windows, then call before walking over from the station.

Sakihana is an unusually easy place to reach by train, yet a day-bath visit still takes a little coordination. Several inns only decide whether to admit visitors on the day, and an overnight guest’s long bathing hours do not apply to walk-ins. A quick call can save you a wasted walk from the station.

Bousenkaku¥800 adults; ¥600 ages 2 to elementary school; ages 0–1 freeCall after 10 am on the day; one-hour visit; towels not includedUpper-floor views over the Agano River
Satorikan¥1,000 adults; ¥500 children11 am–3 pm, last reception 2 pm; a small towel is includedThe clearest published daytime window

Rates are reference prices, not a promise that an inn will accept visitors on a particular day. Hekisuiso, Issuiso, Marumatsu and Bousenkaku can all vary admission with occupancy, cleaning or maintenance. Satorikan also reserves the right to turn visitors away when busy. Its former evening-only day-bath session ended on March 1, 2025.

Start with the constraint that matters most

For a lower-cost soak, Ryusuien is the cheapest listed option. Its published day-use window runs later than most, though its irregular closing days still make a same-day call worthwhile. Hekisuiso and Issuiso sit in the ¥700 range; choose Hekisuiso if having a cooler pool matters, or Issuiso if you want a start time and a clearly described bathing setup. Issuiso uses Sakihana spring water throughout, with seasonal heating or dilution and continuous inflow and overflow.

If you want a river-facing bath, compare Bousenkaku and Satorikan. Bousenkaku’s admission time is decided day by day, while Satorikan publishes an 11 am–3 pm window with last reception at 2 pm. Satorikan costs more, but the small towel is included. Bousenkaku’s open-air bath is 100% source-fed; in cold weather its water can feel cooler. Bring your own towel there.

Marumatsu needs one extra question: which bathing side is assigned that day? The Shoki-no-Yu side has an indoor bath and a stone outdoor bath; Hana-no-Yu is indoor only. The two sides alternate between men’s and women’s use without a fixed schedule. Gosen Tourism lists a ¥700 day-bath reference and a 10 am–3 pm window, but the hotel’s current site asks visitors to check ahead, so confirm both the rate and access before going.

Day-use access is not the same as staying overnight

The six inns sit within walking distance of JR Sakihana Station, but the exact walk differs. More importantly, guest bathing hours are not walk-in hours: overnight access such as early-morning or late-evening bathing does not extend a day ticket. If you arrive late, call before choosing an inn rather than relying on the hours shown for hotel guests.

The three-inn comparison looks more closely at Issuiso, Satorikan and Bousenkaku. For train-based planning, see the car-free Sakihana half-day route. Individual pages cover Ryusuien, Hekisuiso, Issuiso, Hotel Marumatsu, Bousenkaku and Satorikan.
