Ofuro Cafe Utatane or SPA-HERBS? Choosing an Omiya Day Spa
Compare Ofuro Cafe Utatane and SPA-HERBS by ticket, natural spring, stone sauna, overnight hours, tattoo rules and transport from Omiya.
If you only have an hour or two, Ofuro Cafe Utatane is the easier fit: it sells timed bathing tickets and lets you add a café or lounge stop without committing to a half-day. Choose SPA-HERBS when its stone-sauna area and on-site spring are part of the plan. It has a broader bathing circuit, but the ticket makes most sense when you stay long enough to use it.
The late-night difference is decisive. Utatane stays open until 9 am, with an overnight surcharge after 2 am; the baths close for cleaning from 2 to 5 am. SPA-HERBS closes its bath at 1 am, with last entry at midnight. Neither should be described as offering uninterrupted overnight bathing.

Utatane is built for a short soak—or a flexible long stay
Utatane’s timed tickets cover three stays, with separate weekday and weekend/holiday rates. None includes towels or indoor wear.
| Time in the facility | Weekday | Saturday, Sunday and public holiday |
|---|---|---|
| 60 minutes | ¥550 | ¥650 |
| 90 minutes | ¥750 | ¥850 |
| 120 minutes | ¥950 | ¥1,050 |
| Utatane option | Weekday | Weekend / holiday |
|---|---|---|
| Free-time plan, 10 a.m.–2 a.m. | ¥1,400 | ¥1,600 |
| Overnight extension, 2–9 a.m. | +¥1,880 | +¥1,880 |
| Towel set | ¥380 | ¥380 |
| Indoor wear | ¥330 | ¥330 |
Indoor wear is included with the free-time plan; towels are not. Guests under 18 cannot use the overnight period.
The building remains open overnight, but the baths close for cleaning from 2 to 5 am. Overnight guests also cannot use the first-floor shared area or baths from 9 to 10 am. Check the official admission and hours page before visiting in case rates or schedules change.
Timed admission can suit a quick soak or a longer stop in the shared spaces, which include a café, books and manga, lounge seating, work-friendly areas, a fireplace and hammocks. The baths have an indoor pool, jet bath, cold bath and several saunas, including the small Finnish-style Sauna Cota, where guests can add aroma water for löyly.
SPA-HERBS makes more sense when the stone sauna is part of the day
SPA-HERBS costs more when you add its stone-sauna area. Current admission options are:
| Visit | Weekday | Weekend / holiday |
|---|---|---|
| Bath only | ¥1,265 | ¥1,520 |
| All-day bath + stone sauna, entry before 8 p.m. | ¥2,000 | ¥2,800 |
| Bath + stone sauna, entry after 8 p.m. | ¥1,675 | ¥2,110 |
Bath-only admission excludes the stone-sauna area. Towel rental is ¥385; indoor wear is ¥385.
SPA-HERBS draws water from a natural spring about 1,100 metres below the site, classified as an alkaline simple hot spring. Bathing facilities include carbonated and silk baths, jet baths, a sauna, a cold bath and five outdoor pools. Its stone-sauna area has five rooms, including a cooling room and one used for löyly events. It suits a longer visit if you plan to use both the baths and stone-sauna area.
The facility opens for bathing at 9 am and closes at 1 am, with final admission at midnight. Stone-sauna access ends at midnight. The operator says guests wearing diapers cannot use the changing room, large bath or natural-spring baths, and the stone-sauna area is restricted to junior-high-school age and older. Children’s admission rates vary by age and time of entry.
The spring water is not sourced in the same way
Utatane’s outdoor bath uses transported hot-spring water from Ofuro Cafe Hakujunoyu in Saitama’s Kodama area. The operator identifies it as a sodium-rich chloride strong-saline spring. That is natural hot-spring water, but it is not drawn from a source beneath Utatane’s Omiya site. The operator’s current page does not publish a complete set of source measurements or a per-bath treatment breakdown for Utatane, so Hakujunoyu’s source figures should not be presented as measurements taken at Utatane.
SPA-HERBS says its spring rises from about 1,100 metres underground at the facility. It describes the water as an alkaline simple spring and uses it in several outdoor and indoor baths. Its published information does not provide a complete treatment table for every spring-water pool, so an on-site source does not by itself establish that every bath is free-flowing or untreated.
If documented source-water chemistry and bathing method are your deciding factors, compare the facility information carefully rather than relying on the phrase “natural hot spring.” The four-bath Omiya guide also covers Seiganji Onsen and Yukemuri Yokocho.
Getting there: a predictable train walk or a shuttle with set departures
For Utatane, take the Saitama New Shuttle from Omiya to Tetsudo-Hakubutsukan (Daisen) Station, then walk north alongside the railway for about 10 minutes. The facility does not list a shuttle, so this route does not depend on a limited pick-up service.
At SPA-HERBS, the simplest train route is JR to Toro Station, followed by a walk of about nine minutes. A free shuttle also runs between the facility and Omiya Station’s West Exit. It holds 28 passengers and boards first come, first served.
Departures are uneven; for example, service from Omiya resumes at 1:25 p.m. after a gap around noon. Check the current timetable for both directions to see whether the shuttle fits your day.
Tattoo rules are different enough to check before you set out
SPA-HERBS does not admit guests with tattoos, body art or similar stickers. Its FAQ says that if a tattoo is discovered inside, the guest will be asked to leave immediately and the admission fee will not be refunded. No cover-up exception is listed.
Utatane allows a narrower exception: guests may buy one facility-issued cover sticker at reception for ¥220. It measures 12.8 by 18.2 cm, and staff must confirm that it fully covers the tattoo. If one sticker cannot cover the whole design, the rule does not say that several stickers can be combined.
One practical note for mixed groups: the bathing areas are gender-separated, so companions who want to spend the visit together will do so in the shared lounges and dining spaces.
