15 Public Bathhouses in Osaka’s Asahi and Joto Wards
Compare 15 operating sento in Osaka’s Asahi and Joto wards, including two confirmed natural springs, early openings, sauna options and access.
Asahi and Joto have 15 public bathhouses in the Osaka bathhouse association’s current directory: four in Asahi and eleven in Joto. Most are neighborhood sento, but their schedules are unusually varied. A few open at 06:00, one opens early on Sundays, and two Joto baths have published information confirming natural spring water.
The standard adult bathing fee is ¥600; elementary-school children pay ¥200 and preschool children ¥100. Sauna use, towels and other extras can cost more, so the base fare is not always the whole bill. For a broader look at the city, see our Osaka sento guide.
The tables below are meant as a shortlist, not a ranking. Hours and weekly closures matter: some baths have a short opening window, and sauna fees are not included in the standard adult admission of ¥600. Confirm the day’s schedule before making a special trip.
Asahi Ward: four baths
| Bathhouse | Hours | Closed | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jintoku Onsen | 06:30–01:00 | None listed | Two minutes from Senbayashi-Omiya Station; dry sauna, cold bath, softened water, handrails and parking for 20 cars. Soft water is not a natural spring. |
| Kasugayu | Mon–Sat 14:00–00:00; Sun 07:00–00:00 | 2nd and 3rd Wednesday | Three minutes from Morishoji Station; Sunday morning opening, dry and wet saunas, outdoor bath and a radon bath. |
| Shirataki Onsen | 15:00–23:30 | Friday | A traditional neighborhood bath with wood-fired heating, electric bath and cold bath. Its name does not establish that it uses natural spring water. |
| New Miyoshiyu | 14:00–23:00 | Tuesday | Dry sauna, outdoor bath, medicinal bath and softened water; about 10 minutes from Senbayashi-Omiya, or 3 minutes from the Nakamiya bus stop. |
Kasugayu is the one to remember if Sunday morning is your constraint. Jintoku is more flexible through the week and runs later; its 06:30 opening is not quite as early as Joto’s two 06:00 options.
Joto Ward: eleven baths
| Bathhouse | Hours | Closed | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kagon Onsen | 15:00–22:00 | None listed | Near Shigino; the association identifies its outdoor bath as natural spring water, around 37°C. |
| Kikusui Onsen | 16:00–20:30 | Monday | Short hours; the current listing was updated in July 2026. |
| Kotobuki Onsen | 14:00–00:00 | Irregular | About 5 minutes from Noe; dry sauna and cold bath. Check its calendar before going. |
| Fudoyu Natural Onsen | 10:00–22:30; last entry 22:00 | Irregular | Natural spring from about 1,000 metres underground; the source bath is used around 36.5°C. About 12 minutes from Shigino. Parking is available. |
| Suzuran Onsen | 06:00–01:00 | 3rd Thursday | Five minutes from Sekime or Sekime-Seiiku; roomy dry sauna and two cold baths at different temperatures. |
| Kanko Onsen | 15:00–23:00 | Saturday | Wet sauna and cold bath; the association listing was updated in April 2026. |
| Shingu Onsen | 15:00–23:00 | Wednesday | Dry and wet saunas, cold bath and softened water; near Shigino-Higashi. The name alone is not evidence of a natural spring. |
| Tsubohana Onsen | 15:00–23:30 | Wednesday | A neighborhood option around Furuichi; the name does not confirm a natural spring. |
| Utopia Shiratama Onsen | 06:00–01:00 | None listed | Sauna, very cold plunge and carbonated bath. It explicitly accepts tattoos; sauna costs extra. Not a natural spring. |
| Shikishima Onsen | 15:00–22:00 | Monday | Outdoor bath and dry sauna; convenient to a bus stop. |
| Fukakusa Onsen | 15:00–23:30 | Tuesday | Around 3 minutes from three Sekime-area stations; sauna and medicinal bath. A previously announced closure was withdrawn, and a new owner continued operations. |
Two confirmed spring-water baths, with different trade-offs
Fudoyu is the larger excursion: it draws natural spring water from roughly 1,000 metres underground and lists a low-tonicity, weakly alkaline simple spring. Its “source bath” is kept around 36.5°C; that is the bathing temperature, not a measurement at the well. There is also a hotter bath around 43°C.
The current operator lists hours of 10:00–22:30, with last entry at 22:00 and irregular closing days. Shigino Station is about a 12-minute walk away, so it is less of a quick station-side stop. Drivers have on-site and partner parking options. The full Fudoyu guide covers the spring and access in more detail.
Kagon Onsen is easier from Shigino Station, about three minutes on foot. The association identifies its outdoor bath as natural spring water at roughly 37°C. It does not publish a source temperature or a detailed analysis in the listing. Choose it for an easier walk and a cooler outdoor spring bath; go to Fudoyu for more detail about the source and more temperature contrast. Neither figure should be presented as a source temperature.
Several other bathhouses have “Onsen” in their name, but that is not enough to classify them as natural hot springs. Softened water, a radon-labelled bath or a carbonated bath describes a treatment or feature—not necessarily a geologically sourced spring.
If timing matters more than the bath itself
For an early start, Suzuran and Utopia Shiratama both open at 06:00. Jintoku starts at 06:30, while Kasugayu’s 07:00 opening applies only on Sundays. Suzuran’s draw is its spacious sauna and two plunge pools; Shiratama pairs a sauna with a carbonated bath.
Shiratama is the only one in this 15-bath directory whose current information clearly says tattoos are accepted. Do not assume that policy carries over to the others. See our Utopia Shiratama guide.
For a late evening, Jintoku, Suzuran and Shiratama remain open until 01:00. That is the posted closing time, not a guarantee of last admission at that minute. Check each bath’s current notice, especially if you are crossing the ward to get there.

For station-based choices: Senbayashi-Omiya points to Jintoku; Morishoji to Kasugayu; Shigino to Kagon or Kikusui; and the Sekime stations to Suzuran or Fukakusa. If natural spring water is the reason for the trip, stick to Fudoyu or Kagon rather than choosing by a bathhouse’s name.
For options beyond these two wards, browse our guides to early-opening and late-night baths, Miyakojima sento and Yodogawa and Higashiyodogawa sento.
One current-status note is worth keeping in the directory: Fukakusa Onsen had announced plans to close at the end of 2025, but that plan was withdrawn and a new operator continued the bathhouse. The association’s current listing still shows it operating, with Tuesday closures. Older closure notices should not be mistaken for its present status.
The shorter-window baths also have their place. Kikusui Onsen is listed from 16:00 to 20:30, closed Mondays, and suits a quick visit near Nakamihama rather than a sauna-heavy evening.
New Miyoshiyu is around ten minutes on foot from Senbayashi-Omiya Station but only about three minutes from the Nakamiya bus stop. It has a dry sauna, outdoor bath, medicinal bath and softened water. Shirataki Onsen uses wood-fired heating; Shikishima has an outdoor bath and dry sauna but closes at 22:00. These are neighborhood choices, not reasons to cross Osaka on their own.
Before setting out, check the association’s current listing or the bathhouse’s own notice. “No closing day listed” is not a promise that a bath never takes an unscheduled break, and late posted closing times do not guarantee admission right up to the minute.
