Nishinari sento guide: early starts, late baths and 18 neighborhood options
Find 18 operating sento in Osaka’s Nishinari Ward by station, opening time, sauna and tattoo policy; Sansei Onsen closed in August 2026.
Nishinari is a useful part of Osaka to search by station and time of day. Around Shin-Imamiya, Dobutsuen-mae, Tengachaya, Hanazonocho and Kishinosato-Tamade, you will find bathhouses that open at 6 a.m., stay open until 1 a.m., or add saunas and outdoor baths to the standard sento ticket. The Osaka city list counted 19 baths in April 2026, but Sansei Onsen closed on August 29. There are 18 current options in the ward list.
Three useful picks for a first visit
Near Shin-Imamiya and open early: Irifune Onsen is around three minutes from Shin-Imamiya and Dobutsuen-mae stations. It opens at 6 a.m. Tuesday through Sunday; closing is 11 p.m. on weekdays and midnight on weekends. Its official FAQ explicitly welcomes guests with tattoos, and the bathhouse association lists a sauna, cold bath and outdoor bath.
Free sauna and an early start: Wako-yokujo opens at 6 a.m. and is about four minutes from Dobutsuen-mae. Its official site says sauna use is included with the standard ticket, but sauna users need a bath towel; bring one or rent one at the desk. The operator also explicitly permits tattoos.
A destination-style sauna: Hinode-yu opens at 6 a.m. Wednesday through Sunday and 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Its own site promotes a lava-stone sauna, a men’s self-löyly room and a ceiling mural of 108 koi. Check the current schedule before making it the focus of a morning.
What is open when?
These are useful examples from the current ward directory, not a promise that every facility will keep the same schedule indefinitely. Confirm the day’s hours before heading out, especially when the bathhouse has a special closure notice.

| Futaba-yu | 3–11 p.m.; Fri and first Sat off | Five minutes from Kishinosato-Tamade; dry and steam saunas, cold bath and medicinal bath. |

The city’s 2026 list was dated April 1 and still counted Sansei Onsen, which closed on August 29; a dated closure notice appeared in September. We retain it in the record but do not treat it as a current option. Current standard Osaka admission is:
| Visitor | Admission |
|---|---|
| Adult | ¥600 |
| Elementary-school child | ¥200 |
| Younger child | ¥100 |
Sauna, towels and toiletries can add to the total.
Late-night options depend on where you are staying
New National Onsen is the latest listed option, closing at 1 a.m. It is near Matsudacho Station and roughly seven minutes from Tengachaya. Asahi Onsen in Hanazonocho is listed until 12:30 a.m.; several others close at midnight. If you are staying by Tamade or Kishinosato, New Bath House Wellness may save you a cross-ward trip even though it closes earlier.
For a late visit, treat the posted closing time as the end of the session, not a suggested last-entry time. The association directory does not provide last admission for every bath. Confirm at the facility if you expect to arrive close to closing.
Tattoos and natural spring water: check facility by facility
Irifune Onsen and Wako-yokujo explicitly say that guests with tattoos may bathe. That permission does not extend to the other neighborhood baths. If tattoo access matters, check that facility’s own rule rather than inferring it from nearby sento.
The name “Onsen” also does not establish that a bath uses a legally classified natural spring. Softened water, carbonated baths and medicinal baths are features, not proof of a natural source. The ward directory does not identify any of these 18 public bathhouses as a confirmed natural spring facility.
The standard adult public-bath admission in Osaka is ¥600, with a separate tariff for children. Sauna fees and towel requirements vary by location, so the entry fee alone may not cover the full visit.
Tensui-yu’s roughly 39°C figure is for its carbonated bath; Hinode-yu’s advertised 110°C is the sauna-room temperature. Neither is a spring-source temperature. Soft water, medicinal or salt baths, carbonated water and an “Onsen” name do not establish a legal natural spring. No documented natural hot spring is identified among the 18 operating facilities.
For a day around Shinsekai and Tennoji, compare Irifune, Wako, Mansen and Hinode by start time, tattoo policy and sauna needs. Around Tengachaya, Tensui-yu is the short walk with a carbonated bath, New National is the later-closing choice, and Tamamizu has the herbal steam room. Near Kishinosato or Tamade, New Bath House Wellness suits a fuller sauna setup, Futaba-yu has two sauna types, and Fukuju-yu is the quieter historic-bath option. If your train or flight arrives early, Irifune’s three-minute walk is convenient; Wako adds the free sauna and outdoor bath, while Suemori-yu, Mansen-yu and Furoya Sanwa are simpler early openings.
For details on two of the station-area choices, see the Irifune Onsen guide and the Wako-yokujo guide.
