Tajima Shin Onsen, Osaka: Free Saunas and a Late Closing Time

The useful combination here is simple: an ordinary sento price, complimentary sauna access and a closing time later than many neighbourhood baths. It is a good fit after dinner if you are already near Tajima, Tobu-shijo-mae or Minami-Tatsumi. For an after-midnight arrival, call first: the facility publishes its closing time but not a fixed last-admission time.

Current admission and what it covers

The facility provides shampoo and body wash in the bathing area. Its detailed price page gives the adult rate as ¥600 for high-school age and older, but the homepage uses broader wording that groups adults from junior-high age at ¥600 while separately listing junior-high students at ¥400. The detailed table is more specific; if you are budgeting closely, confirm the student fare at the desk.

Two saunas, then a roomy cold bath

Tajima Shin lists a dry sauna and a steam sauna, both included in the admission price. The steam room uses a soft-water mist, giving people who do not enjoy dry heat another option. No need to make the whole group follow the same sauna routine.

The cold bath is another defining feature. The bathhouse describes it as spacious, with a waterfall-like cascade; it is an indoor cold plunge, not an outdoor bath. Recent temperature reports vary by date and bath, so there is no fixed year-round figure to plan around.

The bathing area also has a main tub, shallow bath, electric bath, jet bath and reclining bath. A large skylight and tile artwork bring daylight into the room, though the current facility list does not advertise an outdoor pool. The name “Onsen” is not enough to establish a natural hot spring: the facility does not publish a spring analysis or source data.

The last train may matter more than the closing time

The published hours are 1:30 p.m.–12:30 a.m. on an irregular closing schedule. That gives you a late option, but 12:30 is the closing time, not guaranteed last admission. If you want to wash, use several baths and fit in a sauna session, aim to arrive comfortably before midnight; call ahead if you will be later.

Tajima Shin is at 5-15-6 Tajima, Ikuno Ward. Osaka City Bus stops at Tajima 5-chome, a short walk away. The nearest rail options are Minami-Tatsumi on the Sennichimae Line and Tobu-shijo-mae on the JR Yamatoji Line; neither is a station-exit entrance. The site’s parking information conflicts: its homepage says six spaces, while its access page and the bathhouse association list five. Treat it as a small lot of roughly five or six spaces, not guaranteed parking.

The bathhouse is also listed as a runners’ sento. That can work for a run-and-bathe outing, but it is not a luggage-storage service. Leave a suitcase at your hotel or a station locker.
