Megane Onsen in Osaka’s Ikuno Ward: New Löyly, an Outdoor Bath and Irregular Closures

Megane Onsen sits in Tajima, on the eastern side of Ikuno Ward. Its recent sauna update has brought a new METOS Iki heater and automatic Löyly to a traditional sento with an outdoor bath, several tubs and soft water. The facility association lists hours from 1pm to 11:30pm and says it closes around three times a month on irregular dates.
The station walk is about 15 minutes from JR Tobushijo-mae; four parking spaces are listed. If you are not driving, a bus may make the last stretch easier, but check the route for your starting point. This is more convenient as part of an Ikuno or Tajima outing than as a quick detour from Namba or Umeda.
Admission, sauna charge and the bathing area
The association marks Megane’s sauna as paid but does not give a fixed surcharge. Recent dated sauna reports commonly mention about ¥200 extra; treat that as a planning estimate, not a guaranteed current price, and confirm at the counter.

Rental face and bath towels are available, and shampoo and body wash are provided in the washing area.
The main bath area has shallow and deep tubs, an electric bath, jet bath, cold bath and outdoor bath, with a rest chair outside for cooling off after the sauna. There is more here than a sauna circuit: companions who skip the paid room can still use the regular baths and outdoor area. Four parking spaces are listed, though that is a small lot and not a guarantee of a spot at busy times.
A paid sauna with a clearly updated setup
The current association listing confirms an automatic Löyly sauna fitted with a METOS Iki heater. It is paid, but the association does not publish a fixed surcharge; allow for extra cost and check the front desk. Osaka’s standard adult admission is ¥600, with children’s admission set separately.
The bathhouse also has a cold bath, outdoor bath, electric and jet baths, plus shallow and deep bathing areas. Sauna temperature and cold-bath temperature are not published as fixed specifications. The equipment setup is more useful to plan around than one visitor’s reading on a particular day.
Soft water is used at the taps, showers and baths. The association listing also includes a “radon bath” label, but that label alone does not establish a legally documented natural hot spring. Treat Megane as a sento with distinctive water treatment and sauna facilities.
The current information does not publish a spring name, water analysis, source temperature, pH or flow rate. Soft water describes treatment, while “radon bath” is a facility label; neither substitutes for a natural-spring analysis. The operator’s name and the outdoor bath are not evidence of one either.
A neighborhood bathhouse that keeps changing
Megane Onsen has served Tajima since 1955 and marked its 70th anniversary in 2025. It reopened after a substantial renovation in 2023, then updated its sauna again in 2026. The local identity matters here: Tajima was once known for eyeglass-lens production, which is reflected in the bathhouse’s name. It remains part of an ordinary residential and workshop district rather than a tourist spa quarter.
The 2023 work refreshed the bathing facilities while retaining the familiar sento format. A 2026 public radio recording and mini-live event also brought attention to the bathhouse, followed by dated visitor reports about the newer sauna. Those reports are useful for context, but not a reason to promise a particular temperature or crowd level on your visit.
Check this month’s closing dates
There is no regular weekly closing day. The association says the bathhouse closes about three times per month and posts specific dates. Because the schedule changes by month, an old calendar entry or third-party listing is not enough for a date-specific visit. Check the current facility notice or call before making the trip. The association lists opening hours as 1pm–11:30pm.

Megane Onsen fits a visit to Ikuno if you want a sauna and bath at neighborhood-sento prices. It is a weaker choice if you need a short station walk, a verified natural spring, an overnight rest area or an easy trip from central Osaka. Tattoo policy: Unconfirmed; ask the bathhouse before visiting if it affects admission.
