Kawagoe Onsen Without a Car: Shuttle Stops, Bus Routes and the Trip Back

Reach KASHIBA by its capacity-limited free shuttle, Chiisana Tabi by city bus, or Hatsukari by bus and a walk. Compare the return routes too.

All three of Kawagoe’s main natural-spring bathhouses can be reached without driving. The important difference is what happens if your first plan does not work: KASHIBA’s shuttle may be full, Chiisana Tabi relies on regular buses, and Hatsukari has a final walk that makes a missed return bus inconvenient.

KASHIBA: easiest when the shuttle timetable suits you

From Kawagoe Station, the shuttle stop is on the west side, about a five-minute walk away near U-PLACE and the designated bus bays. At Hon-Kawagoe Station, use the marked stop by the east exit near Matsuya.

The shuttle is free but cannot be reserved, and the operator warns that a full bus may leave passengers behind. It may also depart slightly early if nobody is waiting. Traffic during the Kawagoe Festival or fireworks can cause delays or suspension, so arrive with time to spare.

There are regular-bus alternatives. KASHIBA’s access page lists Seibu Bus route Hon 52 to Isanuma Adventure Forest and Tobu Bus West route Kawagoe 06 to Isanuma Iriguchi, followed by about a 15-minute walk. These are useful fallbacks if the shuttle is full, but neither is a door-to-door replacement. Check the live route details before setting out, especially at night. The free shuttle and these paid buses are separate services.

Chiisana Tabi: a regular city bus, with the timetable to check

Seibu Bus routes 35, 35-1, 36 and 36-1 run between Hon-Kawagoe or Kawagoe Station and the Kasumino area. Get off at Homukyoku for the bathhouse. The routes changed in April 2026, so old timetable screenshots may be misleading. Seibu’s current service page lists them as operating normally, but that does not guarantee a departure at a useful time.

If the return bus does not work for you, Kawagoe-shi Station is about a 15–18-minute walk away. Treat that as a fallback only in good weather, without heavy luggage or mobility constraints. Check the journey planner for your date.

Hatsukari: solve the return before you go in

The operator’s directions point to Kamifukuoka Station on the Tobu Tojo Line or Minami-Furuya Station on the JR Kawagoe Line. From either, take a Seibu Bus to Jon-etsu Saitama Koko Iriguchi-mae, then walk about 15 minutes. Neither route is a direct ride from Kawagoe’s old-town streets.

The Furukawa-area services changed in April 2026, so use the current route planner rather than an old screenshot. Minami-Furuya is often the easier rail connection from central Kawagoe; the Tobu route may be more direct from Ikebukuro or around Kamifukuoka.

Kamifukuoka Station, one starting point for the bus to Hatsukari

Hatsukari is open until 1 a.m., with last reception at 12:30 a.m., but the bus does not run according to the bathhouse’s timetable. Decide your departure time and confirm the last bus first. If the available service does not fit, consider a taxi or choose a bathhouse with a return plan that works for your evening.

Choose the fallback you are comfortable with

For the least complicated ride, take KASHIBA’s shuttle and keep the regular-bus option as a backup. For a route based on the existing city bus network, choose Chiisana Tabi and check the current departure board. Hatsukari is reasonable when your itinerary already passes through Minami-Furuya or Kamifukuoka and you have confirmed both directions.

The Kawagoe day-use onsen overview compares bathing styles and prices. If your main concern is whether an early or late visit fits, use the morning and late-night guide.
