Nanki Katsuura Day-Use Onsen: Cave Baths, Local Sento or a Private Family Bath?

Pick the kind of visit before you pick a bath

Getting there is part of the visit. From Kii-Katsuura Station, walk about six minutes to the sightseeing pier and board the hotel’s shuttle boat. The hotel also has a remote parking lot with its own shuttle, so arriving by car does not mean driving up to the building. Boat service can stop in bad weather, with a shuttle bus used instead.
Allow time for more than one bath. Cleaning breaks are staggered, and the September 18 high-wave notice, still current on September 28, restricted both cave-bath areas:

Hamayu and Ichinotaki suit a shorter stop

Hamayu is the simpler budget stop near the station. Its opening time can shift, so call if making a special trip. Ichinotaki is farther from the station; leave enough time for the return walk.
Kiyomon-yu is the clearest choice when bathing together matters

The family-bath charge is per session, not a room fee that includes bathing admission.
The bath is in the Yukawa area, away from the station-front pair. It is a better reason to arrange a taxi or check the local bus than a stop to squeeze between trains. If a private session is the priority, confirm availability with the facility before setting out.
The no-car version
You can visit Katsuura’s central baths without a car: Hamayu and Ichinotaki are both walkable from the station, while Hotel Urashima has its own pier transfer. Kiyomon-yu takes more planning because it sits farther out in Yukawa. For a one-bath stop, pick one facility and work backward from the return journey; there is little benefit in paying for two soaks if the transport gap turns the day into waiting around.
For another part of Wakayama, compare the Hongu-area baths, Ryujin Onsen day-use options or the Shirahama public baths. They are separate destinations, not a same-day walking circuit from Katsuura.
