Yufuki no Yu at Mount Tanigawa: A Day-Use Onsen by Doai Station

Yufuki no Yu is three minutes from Doai Station; adult entry is ¥800, but its 4–7 p.m. hours and winter outdoor bath vary by date.

Yufuki no Yu suits a day that already takes you to Mount Tanigawa, Doai Station or Ichinokurasawa. Its appeal is the location and the spring itself: you can walk from the station and do not need to detour back to Minakami’s main hot-spring area. The trade-off is a short, changeable opening window. Finish your hike in time, then confirm the bath is open before setting out.

Check the day’s hours before you leave

Doai Yama no Ie currently lists bathing from 4:00 to 7:00pm. The operator says the schedule changes by date and asks visitors to enquire in advance. Do not treat 4–7pm as a guaranteed daily timetable, especially if you are coming by train after a long hike.

The attached lodging plan also warns that snowfall may close the outdoor bath in winter; on some dates, only the indoor bath is available. If the open-air bath is the reason you are going, ask about its status for that specific day.

The current day-use prices listed by the associated Tanigawadake Yufuki no Yu Auto Campground are ¥800 for adults (junior high school and older) and ¥500 for elementary-school children. Children below school age accompanied by an adult are listed as free. The spring’s source temperature is not its bathing temperature: Doai Yama no Ie says it heats the water to maintain a suitable bathing temperature.

What the spring data actually says

The inn classifies the water as an alkaline simple spring. Its published figures are 34.0°C at the source and a yield of 104 litres a minute, lifted by pumping. The operator describes the bath as source-fed and continuously flowing. Those figures do not give the temperature of the bath on arrival, and they should not be used to fill in unreported details such as the water temperature in every tub.

This is a small, practical bathing stop rather than a full resort complex. There is no published reason to come for a sauna or a long list of bathing features; check the facility directly if a particular amenity or tattoo policy will affect your decision.

Getting there without adding a long transfer

The bath is roughly three minutes on foot from JR Doai Station. By car, the associated site lists about 20 minutes from Minakami Interchange and parking for around 50 vehicles. Minakami Station is another option, with the operator listing a bus ride of about 10 minutes, but check the bus stop and operating time for your date.

Doai is a rural station, not a frequent-service stop. Look up your return train before bathing and leave enough time to get back to the platform. The underground-platform route at Doai is famous for its 462 steps up to the station building; allow extra time if your train uses that platform, particularly after hiking or when carrying a large pack.

If you are pairing the bath with Ichinokurasawa, check the 2026 access notice: the road is closed to pedestrians from November 5 for waterway repairs, and the electric sightseeing bus season ends October 31. That route closure is separate from whether Yufuki no Yu itself is open. After a strenuous hike, rehydrate and give yourself time to cool down before bathing; this small facility is best treated as a short recovery stop, not an all-evening spa.

For other bathing options around the area, compare this stop with the Minakami day-use onsen guide. If you want a larger facility instead, see Suzumori no Yu or Hoshi Onsen Chojukan, but check each one’s location and day-use conditions before adding it to the same outing.
