Day-Use Baths in Fukui City: Four Places for Different Schedules

Compare Kaipotsu-no-yu, Gokurakuyu Fukui, Yuyu and Sano Onsen by access, hours and entry. Relaim is now Kaipotsu-no-yu; Koshinoyu Fukui is closed.

Fukui is not a traditional hot-spring town, but a bath can fit neatly around a train arrival, a rainy afternoon or a late dinner. The city’s bathing map changed in 2026: Relaim reopened as ONSEN & SAUNA RESORT Kaipotsu-no-yu, while Koshinoyu Fukui closed on 30 June. If an older guide still lists both names as separate active baths, it is out of date.

Kaipotsu-no-yu: decide whether you want 90 minutes or the full stay

Kaipotsu-no-yu took over the former Relaim site and reopened under its new name on 3 August 2026. The natural bath is open 06:00–01:00; the building operates around the clock.

The sauna garden Moi opened on 1 September. Services have separate hours and admission rules, so check what is included before buying. From Fukui Station, buses on routes 36 and 39 serve stops around the wholesale market area; allow for a short walk from the stop and check the return timetable.

The new brand has not republished a complete spring analysis on its current site, so older Relaim water figures should not be presented as new measurements. Tattoos are generally prohibited, but the facility sells its own cover stickers: up to two are allowed if they fully cover the tattoo.

Gokurakuyu Fukui: easiest by train, with a late closing time

Take the Echizen Railway to Echizen-Kaihatsu Station, then walk about three minutes. The bath area includes several indoor and outdoor tubs, sauna and cold bath. The outdoor area uses natural hot-spring water; the operator does not identify every individual tub as natural or flow-through.

Face towels and bath-towel rental are ¥220 each. The facility does not admit tattooed guests, including those with sticker tattoos. Annual maintenance closures can occur, so check the official notice before a late-night visit.

Yuyu: useful when your day starts early

Yuyu’s baths and sauna open 06:00–01:00, while the building itself is open 24 hours.

The spring comes from about 1,100 metres underground and is classified as an alkaline simple spring. Buses from Fukui Station reach the stop at Shachūō, outside the facility. Day visitors cannot leave midway and come back on the same ticket. Tattoos—including small designs and tattoo stickers—are prohibited.

Sano Onsen Fuku-no-yu: allow time for the ride

Fuku-no-yu is northwest of central Fukui. The source is listed at 70.4°C and classified as a sodium-calcium sulfate spring. There are large public baths and outdoor baths; a private bath requires advance confirmation and booking with the property.

The trip from Fukui Station is roughly 35 minutes by Keifuku Bus on the Ayukawa route, followed by a short walk. It is better suited to a half-day or a drive than a quick soak before a train. The venue posts maintenance and closure notices separately; check the latest news before setting out. Tattoo rules are not clearly stated on the current day-use page, so contact the hotel if this affects your choice.

For a short stop near the station, Gokurakuyu has the simpler rail connection. Kaipotsu-no-yu offers the clearest short-ticket option, Yuyu suits an early start, and Sano is the one to choose when the spring itself is the reason for the trip. If your itinerary continues toward the coast or Ono, compare the Mikuni guide, Echizen Coast baths and Katsuyama/Ono options.

Without a car, match the bath to your train or bus

Gokurakuyu is the simplest rail choice: Echizen-Kaihatsu Station is about a three-minute walk away. Kaipotsu-no-yu and Yuyu are reachable by bus from Fukui Station, but both require checking the stop and return timetable; neither is a station-front bath. Sano Onsen needs the longest transfer, so it is better as a planned half-day visit than a quick stop between trains.

If you are returning from Fukui Station, leave time for the trip back as well as bathing. A late closing time only helps if the bus or train you need is still running. Yuyu’s day ticket also does not allow you to leave and re-enter, so finish your meal or errands before checking in.

Family visits, tattoos and what the ticket covers

Gokurakuyu and Yuyu prohibit tattoos, even when covered. Kaipotsu-no-yu allows up to two of its own stickers if they fully conceal them. Sano’s day-use page gives no tattoo guidance, so call the facility before visiting if you need to know its rule.

For children, compare the full ticket cost. Gokurakuyu rents face and bath towels for ¥220; Yuyu includes a face towel and indoor wear; Kaipotsu-no-yu includes towels only with its longer Free Time ticket. Sano publishes child rates. Ask Sano about private-bath arrangements before visiting.
