Yufuki-no-Yu Day Bath at Doai: Hours, Price and Train Access

Yufuki-no-Yu is a three-minute walk from Doai Station. Adult admission is ¥800, but the mountain lodge asks visitors to confirm daily hours.

Yufuki-no-Yu makes most sense when your plans already take you to Doai: a Mount Tanigawa hike, a walk toward Ichinokurasawa, or even a stop to see Doai Station’s famous underground platform. The bath is inside Doai Yama no Ie, a mountain lodge, so this is not a town sento with a dependable all-day schedule.

That distinction matters more than the short walk from the station. The lodge currently lists day-bathing hours as 4–7 pm, with a note that the schedule varies by date. Check before you travel, especially if you are timing a train or coming down from the mountain late.

Current admission and bathing hours

The Yufuki-no-Yu Auto Campground’s official site lists admission at ¥800 for adults (junior high school age and up) and ¥500 for elementary school children. Preschool children are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. The lodge’s onsen page gives the standard window as 4–7 pm, but says it changes on some dates and asks visitors to call.

The campground and lodge are separate parts of the same local operation; its published bath price is the clearest current price available. Before leaving, call Doai Yama no Ie at +81 278-72-5522 to check whether day visitors are being accepted and when the bath closes that day. Ask specifically about the last entry time if you are arriving near closing.

What the spring information actually tells you

Doai Yama no Ie identifies the water as Yufuki-no-Yu from Tanigawa Onsen. The source is an alkaline simple spring, measured at 34°C, with a reported yield of 104 litres per minute. The lodge describes the bath as free-flowing spring water. Its accommodation information adds an important qualification: the water is heated to keep it at a bathing temperature.

So 34°C is the spring temperature, not a promise that the tub itself sits at 34°C. And “free-flowing” does not establish every detail of water treatment in every tub; the lodge does not publish a full breakdown of heating, dilution, circulation and disinfection on the onsen page.

There is an indoor bath and an outdoor bath, but winter snow can change what is open. The lodge warns that it may suspend the outdoor bath in snowy conditions, and some dates may offer only the indoor bath. If the outdoor setting is the reason for your visit, confirm it directly rather than relying on a photo.

A useful stop after Tanigawa, with one catch

The location is unusually practical for the mountain area: Doai Station is about a three-minute walk away, while Minakami IC is roughly a 20-minute drive. That makes Yufuki-no-Yu an easy add-on after a nearby walk or hike, without detouring back into Minakami’s central hot-spring district.

The catch for rail users is frequency. Joetsu Line trains at Doai are sparse, and the station’s Echigo-Yuzawa-bound platform is deep underground, reached by a long staircase. Check the return train before you enter the bath and leave enough time to get from the platform entrance to the train. If you are tired after hiking or carrying heavy bags, that climb deserves more than a last-minute allowance.

In 2026, a visit to Ichinokurasawa also needs a seasonal check. The Minakami tourism association says the route is scheduled to close to pedestrians as well as vehicles from November 5 for waterway repair work, while the electric guide bus is due to finish for the year on October 31. Those dates affect the walk, not the bath; check both sets of operating information if you are combining them.

Getting there

From Doai Station, walk about three minutes to Doai Yama no Ie. From Minakami Station, the local bus takes roughly 10 minutes toward Doai, though its timetable is limited; check the current departure and return times with the operator before building the bath into a no-car day. By car, the lodge lists an approximately 20-minute drive from Minakami IC.

The address is 220 Doai, Yubiso, Minakami, Tone District, Gunma. For the day’s bathing availability, call the lodge at +81 278-72-5522.

Is this the right bath for your itinerary?

Go when you are already in the Doai or Tanigawa area and can keep your plans flexible around the lodge’s hours. The station-side location and natural spring are the draw; the variable schedule and infrequent trains are the planning constraints.

If you want a bath that is open through much of the day, a place to linger indoors, or a visit that does not depend on a mountain-area train connection, choose another facility in Minakami. Yufuki-no-Yu works best as the final stop in a day already spent nearby, with the return journey settled before you get in.
