Hirugami Onsen works as a day stop if you already have a reliable way there and back, and one public bath is enough. Stay overnight if you want the Star Village night tour, a soak after dinner, or a quiet morning at the hot-spring town’s market. The decision is less about how many baths you can fit in than whether your return journey leaves room for the evening.
Three ways to spend the time

These are different kinds of stops, not three interchangeable baths. Achi-no-Sato and Yuttarina are day-use options; many ryokan do not admit outside bathers every day. Check the facility directly before building a route around it.
First, count the travel time
From Nagoya, the direct expressway bus to the Hirugami Hot Springs stop takes roughly 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes, depending on service. By rail, the official tourism site routes travellers through Iida, then onward by scheduled bus or taxi; that last leg takes about 30 minutes. The bus is simpler if its departure and return times match your plans.
Check both directions before you commit to a day trip. A long lunch or a late bath can turn a relaxed visit into a race for the last connection. If you are coming from Tokyo, the journey is longer still, so an overnight stop is usually easier to justify.
What fits into a day visit?
Yuttarina Hirugami is the clearest standalone day-bathing option. The local tourism association lists it as a dedicated day-use facility, open from 10:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. with last entry at 8:30 p.m.; its listing gives a ¥800 adult admission and Tuesday closure. These details can change, so confirm the day’s schedule before travelling. The facility also has indoor and outdoor baths, a restaurant and a pool, whose hours may differ from bathing hours.
Achi-no-Sato Hirugami is a quieter alternative farther into the area. Its association listing gives day-use bathing from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with last entry at 6:00 p.m.; the listed fee is ¥800. It is not a dedicated public bath, so check availability before making it the only reason for your visit.
For a short stop, pick one bath and give yourself time to eat nearby or stroll beside the Achi River. Trying to visit several inns’ baths in one afternoon is less reliable: many are accommodation facilities, and their day-visitor access can depend on the day or on-site conditions.
If you have only three or four hours, keep the bath, meal and any walk in the same part of the valley. A second facility or distant viewpoint can cost more time in transfers than it adds to the visit. For two adults, work out the day-trip budget as separate items—round-trip transport, two admission tickets and one meal. Bus fares depend on your departure point; driving costs vary, and a hotel dinner or breakfast should not be counted as part of a day-use visit.
The night tour changes the calculation
The Star Village ACHI night tour is held at Heavens Sonohara, outside the hot-spring town. Its 2026 season runs on selected dates, with maintenance closures and a separate winter schedule. Tickets are date-specific and sold online in advance. Check the official season calendar and ticket details before choosing your travel date.
Hirugami Onsen guests can reserve a tour bus between the hot-spring area and Heavens Sonohara when it operates. That removes one of the hardest parts of a night visit: getting back to town after the gondola and programme. Day visitors should confirm their own return transport before buying a ticket; do not assume the accommodation shuttle is available to non-guests or that a regular bus will still be running.
Cloud cover can also affect the value of the trip. The night tour still has its scheduled programme, but a clear sky is not guaranteed. An overnight stay gives you a warm bath and dinner to fall back on if the stars are hidden, rather than leaving the whole evening dependent on one view.
When staying overnight makes sense
Choose a night in Hirugami if you want to return from the tour without a long drive or late transfer, or if you would use the public baths both before bed and in the morning. The town’s daily morning market gives an early start a purpose beyond simply checking out. It is also the more forgiving choice in spring peach-blossom season, when roads and local transport can be busier; allow extra time rather than planning a tight same-day return.
An overnight stay is not automatically better. If you are already driving through Achi Village, do not plan to attend the night tour, and only want one soak, a day-use bath may be all you need. Spring’s peach blossoms can bring more traffic and pressure on local transport. In summer, a river walk can fit before the bath; autumn evenings cool quickly, while winter weather can slow either buses or road travel. On a day visit, keep the return connection as the fixed point and drop the farthest stop if the schedule slips. Staying overnight gives you room to move the bath to the next morning instead.
A simple way to plan either version
For a day trip, lock in the outbound and return transport first. Then choose one bath whose published hours leave a buffer before you need to go. Add a nearby meal or short walk only after that timing works.
