Chigasaki Ryusenji no Yu: When Is the Lagoo Rock Bath Add-On Worth It?

Plan a day at Shonan Resort Spa Ryusenji no Yu in Chigasaki: current admission and Lagoo prices, bath hours, age rules, shuttle times and access limits.

Shonan Resort Spa Ryusenji no Yu works as a straightforward bath stop or a longer indoor break. The decision is whether to pay extra for Lagoo, the gender-mixed rock-bath and lounge zone. If you only want the baths and sauna, the standard admission is enough. Lagoo makes more sense when you have several hours for its heat rooms, manga, reclining chairs or coworking area; it is not a private couple’s bath, and it is only open to guests in junior high school or older.

Re-entry / weekly closureLagoo requires standard admission. No regular weekly closing day; maintenance closures may be announced.

If using both the baths and Lagoo, plan around Lagoo’s earlier last admission. Multiple bath visits are allowed while you remain inside, but there is no re-entry after you leave.

That means a late arrival can pay for the baths without having much time left for Lagoo. If you plan to use both, count backward from Lagoo’s earlier last admission, not the building’s 2 a.m. closing time. The facility allows multiple bath visits while you remain inside, but there is no re-entry after you leave.

What the extra fee buys

Lagoo has several heated rooms, including a sweat-sauna style room, salt rooms and a women-only gemstone room, plus a cold-air room and a cooling terrace. The rest area adds more than 6,000 manga and magazines, TV recliners, floor seating, beanbags, Wi-Fi and power outlets in a coworking space. Most of this zone is shared by women and men; the gemstone room is the exception.

For a roughly two-hour visit, stay with the basic ticket. You can use the main bathing area and sauna without changing into the separate rock-bath outfit or dividing your time across another floor. With about four hours, Lagoo can be a good middle break: bathe separately, meet in the shared lounge or rock-bath area, then return to the baths before leaving. A longer stay is the better fit for reading, working or taking a proper rest between bathing rounds.

Treat those times as a planning guide, not a facility rule. There is no timed limit on Lagoo use, but the zone has a fixed closing time, and the experience only pays off if you want to use the extra space. The main sauna remains gender-separated, so Lagoo offers a shared place to relax rather than a shared bathing pool.

The baths: only two are identified as natural hot spring

The Chigasaki bath page lists a dozen bath and sauna features. It specifically labels Fujimi Rock Bath and the seated bath as natural hot spring. The high-concentration carbonated bath is made by dissolving carbon dioxide into the water; it is not described as a natural carbonated spring. Do not assume every pool uses the same water source just because the complex has natural onsen.

The sauna setup also differs between the men’s and women’s sides. Men have the 14-nozzle “Bazooka” sauna with programmed bursts at the top and half hour. Women have an aromatic loyly sauna. Saunas are limited to guests aged 13 and over. If you are visiting for a specific sauna event, check the facility’s current announcement; event schedules can change.

Age, health and admission rules to know first

Some restrictions can change whether this is a workable family visit:

  • Lagoo and the saunas are for guests in junior high school or older. Children cannot use those areas even with a parent.
  • Children under junior-high age cannot enter alone. The facility asks that elementary-school children bathe with a same-sex guardian; mixed bathing is prohibited from age seven or at 120 cm tall, whichever rule applies.
  • Children who still wear diapers may use only the designated children’s bath. The FAQ says diapered babies are otherwise welcome under that restriction; changing tables are in both changing rooms.
  • The facility does not admit people with tattoos, including small tattoos, body paint or tattoo stickers. It also lists intoxicated guests, people with contagious or skin conditions, pets and anyone unable to complete the admission procedure independently among those it may refuse.
  • Menstruating guests are asked not to use the bathing facilities. Wheelchair users can access areas up to the changing room, but not the bath itself; a same-sex companion is required.
  • Minors may not remain in the facility after 11 p.m. under the facility’s stated local-rule notice.

The official pages do not set out a complete medical screening guide for pregnancy, cardiovascular conditions or other individual health questions. Ask the facility or your clinician before visiting if heat exposure may be an issue. Do not infer that a general admission ticket overrides the posted rules.

Getting there without a car

Free shuttle buses connect the spa with the north exits of Chigasaki and Hiratsuka stations. The Chigasaki service is more frequent: on both weekday and weekend timetables, the spa and station departures run about once an hour from the morning into the evening. Hiratsuka is less convenient for a late visit. On weekdays its shuttle runs every two hours from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; on weekends and holidays, the published service is every two hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The bus is free, but the facility warns that a full vehicle may leave passengers behind. Bad weather or road conditions can delay it, and unexpected incidents can suspend service. Leave a buffer if you have a train to catch. The timetable on the official access page is the best place to check your particular day before setting out.

The address is 1339-1 Nakajima, Chigasaki, next to the Chigasaki West exit of the Shonan Bypass. The FAQ lists free parking for 326 cars. If you are driving, confirm the route and road conditions rather than treating that capacity as a guarantee of an immediately available space on a busy day.

Food, towels and paying inside

Outside food, drinks, plastic bottles and water bottles are not allowed. Restaurants, drink counters and vending machines are available inside, and purchases are charged to the IC band on your shoe-locker key before you settle up at the exit. This matters more on a long Lagoo visit than a quick soak: you cannot bring your own meal or water bottle to keep costs down.

Shampoo, conditioner and body wash are provided in the bathing areas. Bring your own towels or budget for them: the FAQ lists single towel sales and a face-and-bath-towel rental set. Lagoo admission already includes a rock-bath outfit and large towel, but a replacement outfit costs extra. The facility accepts cash, transit IC cards, several e-money and QR services, plus contactless Visa, Mastercard and JCB; the current payment page should be checked if you rely on a specific method.

For another day-use option around the region, compare the Hakone Yuryo and Tenzan bath guide. If you want to understand why the main carbonated pool is a different kind of bath from the two natural spring pools, see the guide to reading onsen water temperatures and labels.
