Kawasaki Onsen Without a Car: Rail Walks and the Right Bus Stop

Walk from Musashi-Shinjo to Chitose Onsen or Yako to Shiraku no Yu. Kirari and Yuiru are bus-based trips from Mizonokuchi and Kawasaki Station.

Kawasaki’s day-use baths are all reachable without driving, but the last stretch is not the same at each one. Two are short walks from Nambu Line stations. The other two make more sense if you are already near the correct bus terminal.

When you want the least complicated rail trip

Chitose and Shiraku are the easiest choices if you do not want to fit a bus into the day. Chitose is about seven minutes on foot from Musashi-Shinjo Station. Shiraku is about six minutes from Yako Station. Both sit on the JR Nambu Line, making them practical from Kawasaki, Musashi-Kosugi or Mizonokuchi without adding a separate bus leg.

Their visits feel different once you arrive. Chitose is the lower-cost neighborhood bath, with adult entry at ¥570 and its dark spring in an outdoor bath. Shiraku costs more, but the high-salinity spring and rock-and-timber bathing area make it a longer, spring-focused outing. Check the late-night opening guide if you expect to travel back after 10 p.m.

When the bus is worth it

Kirari is beside Tachibana Elementary School. From Mizonokuchi Station’s south exit, take Tokyu Bus route 5 toward Kani-ga-ya and get off there. The bus stop is close to the entrance, though departure and return times still shape how long you can stay.

The current ordinary Kawasaki City fare on Tokyu Bus is ¥240 by IC card or ¥250 in cash. Rinko Bus’s Kawasaki-area standard fare is ¥240. The fare is modest; for a late soak, the more important question is whether a return service still runs when you plan to leave.

For Yuiru, start at Kawasaki Station’s east exit and take Rinko Bus route Kawasaki 24, the Kokan loop, to Rinko Junior High School. Yuiru’s access page links to current stop timetables and publishes a free-shuttle schedule. Check both before you leave: the shuttle can be useful, but its timetable is not a substitute for confirming that a trip runs on your date.

There is no reason to memorize a fare or an old timetable for either bus. Operators can update both; use the linked route planners on the day of travel. That is especially important after a long sauna visit, when a missed final bus can turn a simple outing into a taxi ride.

Your base in the city can settle the choice. From Kawasaki Station, Shiraku is a short Nambu Line ride and walk, while Yuiru is the direct east-exit bus trip. Around Musashi-Kosugi or along the Nambu Line, Chitose is an easy walk from Musashi-Shinjo.

If you are staying on the Den-en-toshi Line or near Shibuya and Futako-Tamagawa, Kirari is often the more natural detour from Mizonokuchi. Travellers based in Yokohama may find it simpler to compare the city’s own day baths than cross to Kawasaki for a similar soak.
