Hotel Ichibata or Suitenkaku? A Matsue Day-Bath Comparison
Compare Hotel Ichibata and Suitenkaku for a day-use onsen in Matsue: lake views, sauna, towels, current prices, opening hours and access.
| Day-use item | Hotel Ichibata | Suitenkaku |
|---|---|---|
| Adult admission | ¥1,500 | ¥1,200 |
| Face towel purchase | Not specified here | ¥200 |
| Difference in admission | ¥300 | ¥100 after buying the towel |
After that, it is less a price contest than a choice between a lake-facing hotel bath with a sauna and a garden-style inn bath.
Both properties use Matsue Shinjiko Onsen. Their published pages do not give a complete, bath-by-bath account of water treatment, so the shared onsen name is not proof that every tub is supplied or maintained in exactly the same way.
| For one adult | Hotel Ichibata | Suitenkaku |
|---|---|---|
| Entry | ¥1,500 | ¥1,200 |
| If buying a face towel | Included with the bath towels | ¥200 extra; ¥1,400 total |
| Main day-use draw | Sixth-floor Lake Shinji panorama and automatic löyly sauna | Indoor bath and garden-side open-air baths |
| Bath layout | Shared public bath | Women’s hinoki outdoor bath; men’s rock outdoor bath |
| One thing to confirm | Cleaning-day morning schedule differs between the hotel’s English and Japanese pages | Call first on busy dates; bath-only visitors may not be admitted |
The ¥300 difference is smaller if you need a towel
Ichibata’s ticket includes bath towels and face towels in the bathing area, plus shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Its public bath is on the sixth floor of the West Wing, with a panoramic view across Lake Shinji; the automatic löyly sauna also faces the lake. If you will use both the sauna and the view, the extra ¥300 buys a noticeably different visit, not simply a hotel-branded version of the same bath.
Suitenkaku lists shampoo, conditioner, body wash and a hair dryer. Its day-use page offers a face towel for ¥200, but does not clearly promise a bath towel. Bring one or check before you go if you do not want that uncertainty to decide the comparison for you.
The lower price buys a different atmosphere rather than a smaller version of Ichibata. Suitenkaku’s public baths pair an indoor pool and garden views with separate outdoor baths: hinoki for women and rock for men. The private lakeside spa, Aqua, is not part of the day ticket. The inn marks it for overnight guests, so do not count on reserving it as a day visitor.
Your schedule may decide it before the price does
Ichibata normally accepts day visitors Wednesday through Sunday from 7–10 a.m. and 1–10 p.m.; last admission is listed at 9 p.m. On Monday and Tuesday, its cleaning-and-inspection schedule moves the afternoon opening to 4 p.m. The morning hours on the hotel’s Japanese and English pages do not match: the Japanese page gives a later closing than the English page. If you are planning an early soak on either day, check with the hotel directly rather than relying on one version.
Suitenkaku’s day-use window is 4–9 p.m. The inn warns that it may stop accepting bath-only visitors on busy dates, such as the day before a holiday, and asks visitors to call first. Its hours suit a late-afternoon visit; they do not work for a morning bath or a post-sightseeing soak that starts late.
If the timing is tight, Ichibata is easier to plan around because it publishes more day-use sessions. That is not a promise of admission on every date—maintenance or special circumstances can still affect access. For the broader set of baths and scheduling caveats in this district, see the Matsue Shinjiko Onsen day-use guide.
Getting there, and making the call
Hotel Ichibata is about a one-minute walk from Matsue-Shinjiko-Onsen Station. Suitenkaku is also in the Chidoricho lakeside area; its access map is the better reference for the final walk, especially with luggage or in poor weather. From JR Matsue Station, remember that the Ichibata railway stop and JR station are different places. Hotel Ichibata lists a local bus ride of about 18 minutes from JR Matsue Station to the onsen station, then a one-minute walk.
Choose Ichibata if you will use the sauna, want to see the lake from the bath, or need a morning opening. Choose Suitenkaku if the garden-style bath is more appealing and you can phone ahead for a late-afternoon visit. If you mainly want the lowest-cost soak, compare both with the other facilities in the Matsue and Izumo day-use onsen guide before crossing town.
