Takunoyu or Omorinoyu? Two Matsue Onsen Compared
Compare Takunoyu’s ¥530 bath and bookable private room with Omorinoyu’s self-pour saunas, lounge and higher weekend admission in Matsue.
Takunoyu and Kimachi Onsen Omorinoyu are both day-use hot springs in Matsue, but they suit different kinds of stop. Takunoyu keeps the basics inexpensive: ¥530 covers the public baths, outdoor bath, sauna and cold plunge, and a private room bath can be reserved separately. Omorinoyu costs more, especially on weekends, but its two self-pour sauna rooms and lounge facilities make it easier to spend a few hours there.

Choose Takunoyu for value or a private bath
Takunoyu’s standard adult admission is ¥530, regardless of weekday or weekend. The facility lists two gender-separated bathing areas, with an indoor bath, outdoor bath, sauna and cold plunge. Bring a sauna mat if you have one; the facility sells them for ¥250. Body wash and rinse-in shampoo are provided.
The private room bath, called Matoi-yama, is a separate booking. It costs ¥2,440 per hour for up to four people, then ¥260 per additional person per hour. Reservations are required by phone or another direct contact. The listed charge is per room, not per bather, so it can make sense for a small family or anyone who cannot use a shared bath. Confirm availability and the room’s current conditions before travelling.
Takunoyu’s official spring page identifies the source as Kobu Horibe Onsen, a sodium-chloride/sulfate spring. It lists the source at 50.5°C and the water at the tap at 34°C; those are not necessarily the temperatures of every bath. The site also lists the usual precautions for bathing with health conditions, so check with a clinician if you have concerns rather than relying on the facility’s general benefit claims.
Pick Omorinoyu when the sauna is the main event
Omorinoyu reopened after renovation on April 15, 2026. The current adult admission is ¥880 on weekdays and ¥980 on weekends and public holidays. Its main distinction is the pair of self-pour sauna rooms: KURA uses a Harvia Legend heater, while MURO is finished with local Kimachi stone. Visitors can add water to the sauna stones themselves, following the room’s instructions.
The higher price buys more than a different sauna. The facility lists Wi-Fi, power outlets, a co-working area, manga and magazines, and massage chairs at no extra charge. Its restaurant, Irori Chaya, is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with last orders at 8:30 p.m. That makes Omorinoyu a better fit if you expect to stay for lunch, reading or a work break after bathing.
Omorinoyu’s official page identifies the water as a simple, alkaline, low-temperature spring and lists the source at 27.8°C with a pH of 9.3. These figures describe the source, not the temperature in each tub. The bathhouse says tattoos are accepted only when covered by its designated B6-size cover seal, sold for ¥220. If yours cannot be fully covered by that patch, do not assume entry will be allowed.
Access is easier by car at either facility
Neither place is a quick walk from central Matsue or Matsue Station. Takunoyu is in Kashima, northwest of the city centre. Omorinoyu is in Shinji, toward the western side of Matsue and closer to the Izumo Airport area. Their locations make them more practical as part of a drive than as an evening detour from a hotel near the station.
Omorinoyu lists about 50 free shared parking spaces. Takunoyu’s official pages confirm its address and phone number, but check the current access information if parking capacity matters to your group. For Omorinoyu, the facility says the community bus from Shinji Station runs on weekdays and requires a reservation; a taxi from the station is another option. Check the return trip before choosing the bus.
The short version
For a straightforward bath and sauna at a fixed ¥530, go to Takunoyu. It is also the clearer choice if you need a bookable private room bath. Choose Omorinoyu if you want to compare two self-pour sauna rooms and use the lounge, work area or restaurant as part of a longer visit. If your itinerary is based around Matsue Station, consider a city-centre bath instead of making the cross-town trip; the Matsue city day-use onsen guide compares those options.
