Private Onsen Baths in Matsuyama: Himehiko or Sora to Mori?
Compare private onsen rooms in Matsuyama, including Himehiko and Sora to Mori prices, booking rules, room features and extra charges.

If you want to bathe with your family or partner in a private room, Himehiko Onsen and Sora to Mori are two useful Matsuyama options to compare. Himehiko has a large range of private rooms, from a simple indoor bath to rooms with an outdoor bath, sauna and cold plunge. Sora to Mori offers a more room-like setting with a semi-open-air bath, seating space, towels and toiletries.
Their pricing works differently. Himehiko charges by room and session, with extra charges for additional guests. Sora to Mori’s room price covers the first 60 minutes, but each bather also pays an admission fee if they want access to the public spa. Check the room rules before assuming the private-bath price includes the main bath complex.

Himehiko: more room types to choose from
Himehiko lists 20 private-bath rooms. These examples show how much the room setup changes the rate:
| Room | Bath or features | Base session | Extension |
|---|---|---|---|
| Matera | Indoor bath | ¥3,000 / 60 min | ¥1,000 / 30 min |
| Private-sauna room | Indoor bath and private sauna | ¥3,500 / 60 min | Room-specific |
| Koyamaki (small) | Compact room | ¥3,000 / 90 min | Room-specific |
| Selected Moon/Star and Kiri/Nagi rooms | Open-air bath, sauna and cold plunge | ¥6,500 / 90 min | Room-specific |
| Ten | Higher-end room | ¥7,000 / 90 min | Room-specific |
Several room types include up to four people in the base fee. Where listed, extra guests cost ¥500 per adult or ¥100 per small child. Capacity and surcharges differ by room, so match the fee to the specific room you book.
The listed room amenities include bath and face towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and a hair dryer. Rooms generally allow up to four people before per-person surcharges apply. Himehiko’s current pages state that reservations are accepted on weekdays only; on weekends and public holidays, call to ask about availability rather than expecting to reserve a slot in advance.
One rule deserves extra attention: room use is automatically extended unless you keep track of your time. The operator says staff will not come to tell you that your session is ending. Agree on a timekeeper before getting in, especially if you are comparing the cheapest listed room rate.
Sora to Mori: a private bath with more space to unwind
Sora to Mori’s Comfort and Deluxe rooms have a semi-open-air bath, shower and a separate place to sit. The Comfort room also has a reclining chair, Wi-Fi, towels and toiletries.
| Room | Online / phone or desk | Included guests | Extension |
|---|---|---|---|
| Comfort | ¥4,000 / ¥4,500 for 60 min | Up to 3 | ¥1,500 per 30 min |
| Deluxe | ¥5,000 / ¥5,500 for 60 min | Up to 3 | ¥1,500 per 30 min |
Comfort rooms measure about 45–50 m². The base rate covers up to three guests; extras and tax are separate.
| Additional charge or booking term | Details |
|---|---|
| Bathing tax | ¥150 per adult |
| Fourth guest onward | ¥800 per adult; ¥400 per child |
| Shared public bath | ¥1,500 per adult; ¥550 per child |
| Online booking window | Opens 7 days ahead; closes 1 hour before the session |
| Payment | Initial room fee online; extensions and tax at the venue |
Private-room use generally runs 10:30 a.m.–11:30 p.m., with last entry at 10:30 p.m.; Friday and Sunday opening is listed from 11 a.m. Stays are capped at four hours. A date or time change may require a new booking.
The shared bath opens 5 a.m.–1 a.m., with last entry at midnight. It closes for cleaning from 1–5 a.m.; an overnight stay is a separate product. A late private booking may leave little time for the shared bath before cleaning begins.
Which one makes more sense for your group?
Himehiko is the easier place to tailor the room to your group. Its simpler indoor bath keeps the starting cost lower, while selected rooms add private sauna and cold-plunge facilities. It is the stronger fit if those specific features are the reason you are booking.
Sora to Mori makes more sense if the room itself should be a place to rest, not just a private tub. Its seating and semi-open-air layout add space between bathing and leaving, but the total rises once you add public-bath access, extra people or extensions.
At Himehiko, do not rely on advance booking for weekends. At Sora to Mori, check the available online slots early and budget separately for public bathing if you plan to use it. Neither venue’s private-room rate should be compared as though it were simply the price of a shared public bath.
For shared baths and other city facilities, see the Matsuyama onsen and sento guide or compare the two large spa complexes in Kisuke-no-Yu vs Sora to Mori.
If a guest has a tattoo, the public-bath rules differ from the private-room question. Sora to Mori says tattooed guests cannot use its shared bath, but may use only the lodging room or family private bath. Himehiko’s public bath also prohibits tattoos; its private-bath page does not publish an equally clear exception. Confirm directly with Himehiko rather than assuming that its private rooms are exempt.
Sora to Mori is about a three-minute walk from Iyo Railway Kume Station and has free parking. Himehiko has free parking too; without a car, take the bus to Hantadera-guchi and walk about three minutes, or arrange a short taxi ride from Kume Station. For the latter, do not treat a private-bath booking as a guaranteed pickup.
