Himeshi no Yu in Mitsue: Bathing, Family Baths and the Bus from Nabari
Plan a visit to Himeshi no Yu at Mitsue’s Ise Honkaido roadside station: admission, private-bath eligibility, facilities and the bus from Nabari.
Himeshi no Yu makes the most sense when your day already takes you through Mitsue, Nabari or the Ise Honkaido route. It is inside a roadside-station complex, with indoor and outdoor baths, a sauna and a place to eat. From Nabari, the bus gets close to the door, but the ride is long and the service is limited enough that the return timetable should shape your visit.

The operator says schedules can vary by season. Check its current notice before making a long trip, especially around a Tuesday or holiday. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, a hair dryer and valuables lockers are provided. A face towel costs ¥200; bath-towel rental is ¥120.
If you arrive without towels, budget ¥1,220 for an adult: ¥900 admission, ¥200 for a face towel and ¥120 to rent a bath towel. That is an estimate, not a bundle price.
The operator lists cash, credit cards and selected QR payments, including Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, PayPay, d-barai and au PAY. Payment terminals can still be temporarily unavailable.
Discounts are limited to eligible visitors or groups: Wednesday discounts for residents of named nearby communities, Thursday discounts for guests aged 65 or over, groups of at least ten adults, JAF members (up to two people), and coupons earned through spending at the roadside market. Most visitors should budget the standard ¥900 admission.
The two private baths are for specific needs
Himeshi no Yu has a bookable family bath with indoor and outdoor tubs, and a separate care bath. Both allow up to five people at once and cost extra for one hour: ¥3,300 for the family bath or ¥2,600 for the care bath. The operator does not clearly say on its public page whether standard admission is included, so ask when booking rather than assuming the listed fee is the whole group total.
The family bath is intended for families with a child in third grade or younger, people who are uncomfortable using a shared bath because of surgery scars, and guests who cannot bathe alone after an injury such as a fracture. The operator invites people with other circumstances to call and discuss eligibility. The care bath requires a care or disability certificate. It has handrails, a multipurpose toilet, a level entrance and a shower chair; wheelchair users can enter the room.
These are not ordinary book-anytime private rooms for any couple. Reservations are taken by phone or at the front desk. Ask about eligibility, the total charge and an available time before travelling. If you simply want a private bath without those specific circumstances, Kamokimi no Yu in Gose has a different, generally bookable setup.
A rotating bath, not one fixed layout
The men’s and women’s sides switch between the wood and stone baths by date. The usual arrangement is men in the wood bath and women in the stone bath on odd-numbered days, then reversed on even-numbered days. The operator warns that it can change, so treat the calendar as a guide rather than a guarantee.
The facility lists an indoor bath, outdoor stone bath, wooden tub, sauna and cold bath. It describes the spring as a simple hot spring, classified as low concentration, weakly alkaline and low-temperature at the source. Those terms describe the source water; they do not establish that every bathing pool is supplied without circulation or temperature adjustment.
Getting there from Nabari
The address is 6330 Kannae, Mitsue Village. Mie Kotsu buses run from Kintetsu Nabari Station to Shikitsu in about 60 minutes, and the stop is roughly a one-minute walk from the facility. The timetable linked by the operator is labelled October 2025; check Mie Kotsu for the current service and confirm the return bus before you set out.
Drivers can use the roadside station’s parking. The operator estimates about 60 minutes from Hari Interchange via Uda, or from Ueno Interchange via Nabari. Those are route estimates, not a promise about traffic or winter conditions.
The on-site restaurant and rest area, Uguisu, is open 11 a.m.–8 p.m., with last orders at 7 p.m. The hot spring can be used without shopping at the roadside market.
The roadside station also provides an 80-tatami-mat rest room. Himeshi no Yu and Okame no Yu charge the same adult admission, ¥900; choose by route and the kind of visit, not by price alone. Himeshi’s family and care baths serve defined needs, while Okame no Yu has a different setup.
Cleaning and upkeep
Recent accommodation reviews are mostly positive about cleaning, though a small number mention room dampness or ageing air-conditioning and hair-dryer equipment. These comments concern guest rooms and equipment, not a measured cleanliness audit of the day-use baths.

Who should choose Himeshi no Yu?
It suits a Mitsue, Nabari or Ise Honkaido itinerary, especially if you need one of the two purpose-specific private baths. It is a poor fit for a spontaneous trip from central Nara: the bus takes about an hour and the return timetable, rather than the 8 p.m. closing time, sets your real cutoff.
