How to Get to Nyuto Onsen from Tazawako Station
Tazawako’s Ugo Kotsu bus stops near most Nyuto inns. For Tsurunoyu, arrange its shuttle from Arupa Komakusa; the named entrance stop is a 50-minute walk away.
Nyuto Onsen is reached by bus from JR Tazawako Station, on the Akita Shinkansen and JR Tazawako Line. The local bus takes roughly 45–50 minutes to the end of the route, depending on the stop. In the current fare table, the main Nyuto-area stops cost ¥950 one way from the station; Tsurunoyu Onsen Entrance is ¥850, but the inn is not beside that stop.
Take the Nyuto Line from the station forecourt
Ugo Kotsu’s Nyuto Line runs from Tazawako Station via the lakeside, Mizusawa Onsen Village, Tazawako Kogen Onsen and Arupa Komakusa into Nyuto Onsenkyo. The April 1, 2026 timetable has limited departures, so check the direction and stop before setting out.

Those are the current published times, not a promise of a perfect connection. Ugo Kotsu warns that weather and road conditions can cause delays, and that some services do not connect with the Shinkansen. Check the timetable for your travel date and leave a buffer before any onward train.
Match the stop to your accommodation
| Stay or destination | Bus stop / transfer | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Kyukamura Nyuto Onsenkyo | Kyukamura-mae | The bus stops at the lodge; no separate inn shuttle is needed for this leg. |
| Taenoyu | Taenoyu Onsen-mae | The stop is beside the property. |
| Ganiba Onsen | Nyuto Ganiba Onsen | This is the line’s final stop. |
| Tsurunoyu Onsen | Arupa Komakusa, then the ryokan’s arranged shuttle | Contact Tsurunoyu first and confirm the pickup. The bus stop named Tsurunoyu Onsen Entrance is about a 50-minute walk from the inn. |
| Other inns deeper in the area | Confirm the exact stop and any pickup with the property | The local bus, the Yumeguri-go shuttle and each inn’s own transfer are different services. |
The bus company specifically tells Tsurunoyu guests to contact the facility and use its shuttle from Arupa Komakusa. Do not plan to walk from Tsurunoyu Onsen Entrance with luggage, particularly in snow or icy weather.

Check with the operator for fares to any stop not listed in this summary.
These are fares for the public bus from Tazawako Station. The Yumeguri-go is a separate shuttle within Nyuto Onsenkyo; neither a Yumeguri pass nor an inn pickup replaces the station bus ticket.
A few useful distinctions
Tazawako Station and Tazawako Lakeside are separate stops. The station is the rail-to-bus transfer point; the lakeside stop is farther along the route. If you are heading straight to Nyuto, board at the station rather than detouring to the lake.
For Tsurunoyu, book the stay and pickup before choosing the bus. For the other direct-route properties, note the exact stop name and check the inn’s check-in or dinner deadline against the timetable. In winter, recheck operating notices and allow extra time for snow and road delays.
JR East lists coin lockers at Tazawako Station, which can help if you are making a day visit with a large bag. The station page does not promise a particular locker size or availability, so travel light enough to manage your luggage if the larger lockers are full. It also confirms there is no staffed Midori-no-madoguchi ticket office; use the reserved-seat ticket machines and check their service hours if you need to collect or change a ticket.
The station is the place to change from rail to bus; Tazawako Lakeside is a different stop farther along the route. If you are heading straight into the mountains, there is no need to detour to the lakeside first. The station has coin lockers, but no guaranteed large-size space, and no staffed Midori-no-madoguchi ticket counter. Check the hours of the reserved-seat machines if you need to collect or change a Shinkansen ticket.
The 2026 bus timetable also notes that some departures use a Sunday-and-holiday schedule on August 11–16 and December 29–January 3. Check the calendar printed on the current timetable rather than assuming a weekday service pattern during those periods.
In winter, do not transfer summer walking directions to a snow-covered road. Kuroyu and Sunroku are farther from the direct-bus stops; the winter Yumeguri-go timetable can require a walk from Ookama, and the stated 15 minutes varies with snow. Recheck seasonal opening at each inn, the winter shuttle sheet and the final leg before travelling with luggage.
For a day trip, decide on the return bus before you choose a bath. The association’s Yumeguri-go shuttle circulates within the onsen area; it does not connect Nyuto with Tazawako Station. If you are staying overnight, the guest-only Yumeguri-cho is a separate product from the day-use Yumeguri Map, and neither replaces the public bus fare to or from the station.
If you are still choosing a base, see the guide to where to stay in Nyuto Onsenkyo. To decide whether to make the trip a day visit or stay overnight, see Nyuto day trip or overnight?.
Before boarding
- The Nyuto Line starts at JR Tazawako Station; the lakeside stop is farther along the route.
- Adult one-way fares effective April 1, 2026: ¥750 to Arupa Komakusa, ¥850 to Tsurunoyu Onsen Entrance, and ¥950 to Kyukamura-mae, Taenoyu Onsen-mae, Nyuto Onsen and Nyuto Ganiba Onsen.
- For Tsurunoyu, contact the inn and arrange pickup at Arupa Komakusa. The similarly named Onsen Entrance stop is about a 50-minute walk from the ryokan.
- The Yumeguri-go is an onsen-area shuttle, not the public bus back to Tazawako Station. An inn pickup is also a separate service; ask whether day visitors may use it.
- Bus and inn transfers may be delayed or changed by weather. Leave time for the Shinkansen and confirm the exact bus stop for your lodging.
The properties’ tattoo rules are not covered by the bus operator’s access information. Check the selected inn directly rather than assuming one rule applies across Nyuto.
