Four Day-Use Onsen in Southern Okinawa, Compared

Compare four natural hot springs in southern Okinawa by access, water source, sauna, pools, current admission and day-use check-in times.

Southern Okinawa has four natural hot-spring options with very different logistics. Ryujin no Yu on Senagajima is the easiest stop around a flight and the only one with a direct sea-and-runway view. Enjin no Yu in Nanjo is the strongest choice if the spring water itself matters most. In Naha, Shimanchu no Yu pairs a bath with pools, while Uminchu no Yu costs more for a quieter spa layout and separate men’s and women’s saunas.

One date matters if you are travelling soon: Loisir Naha plans to close its indoor and outdoor pool areas from October 13, 2026, until around early summer 2027. The hotel says it will also stop selling the pool-and-Shimanchu tickets during the renovation. That notice does not say that the bath itself will close, so check what day-use product remains before buying a ticket after October 12.

Ryujin no Yu: a flight-friendly soak on Senagajima

Ryujin no Yu sits on Senagajima, just south of Naha Airport. Its large outdoor bath looks toward the sea and the airport’s second runway; on a clear evening, the Kerama Islands sit beyond the sunset. The island setting makes this the simplest of the four to fit before check-in or after landing without first going into central Naha.

Elementary-school ticket¥1,000

Hours6 a.m.–midnight daily; last admission 11 p.m.

Severe weather, including typhoons, can bring an unscheduled closure. The hotel expects more visitors after 6 p.m., so the convenient sunset window is also the busiest one.

Both alternating sides have indoor and open-air baths, a cold plunge, a löyly sauna and a mist sauna. The outdoor bath uses the natural spring from about 1,000 metres underground; the hotel describes the water as a strongly saline sodium-chloride spring. Its indoor bath is separately described as nano water at around 41°C. That is a bath temperature, not the temperature of the natural source.

From the airport, the hotel lists about 15 minutes by car. Airport Limousine service and local buses also serve Senagajima, but check the current stop and return service before relying on a bus late in the evening. The bath does not accept tattooed visitors or people who wear diapers as part of daily life. Children of elementary-school age and older must use the bath for their own gender with a same-gender guardian.

Enjin no Yu: go to Nanjo for the source-water story

Enjin no Yu is inside Yuinchi Hotel Nanjo, on a hill above the Pacific. The source water is described as a natural blend from two geological layers, about 5 million and 54 million years old. The operator lists it as unfiltered, unheated and undiluted, with source water flowing directly into the bath. If your decision turns on how clearly a facility documents its water treatment, this is the most straightforward of the four.

Bring-your-own-towel plan¥1,850¥150¥2,000Accepted only until 7 p.m.

The bath is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.; last reception is 10:30 p.m.

The view and water come with a longer transfer. Yuinchi lists the hotel at about 40 minutes from Naha Airport by regular roads, or about 30 minutes using the expressway and then local roads. Its bus directions run from Naha Bus Terminal on route 37 to Nanjo City Hall—about an hour on the bus—then a six-minute walk to the hotel. That is possible without a car, but it is not an easy add-on to a short airport layover.

The operator refuses entry to visitors with tattoos, including tattoo stickers. Children of elementary-school age and older use the bath for their own gender. Young children need a guardian with them, and bathing after drinking is not allowed.

Shimanchu no Yu: the Naha option with a pool component

Shimanchu no Yu is in the main Loisir Hotel Naha building, west of the city centre. It uses the same Miegusuku source as Uminchu no Yu: the hotel describes an iodine-sodium-chloride spring that rises naturally from around 800 metres underground at 40.9°C, then is heated to roughly 42–43°C for bathing. The published source temperature is not the temperature of the bath.

Official digital ticket¥1,500¥750Valid for 60 days after purchase; same visitor package

There are two different time windows to keep straight. The bath itself is listed as open 6 a.m.–midnight, but the hotel’s day-use facility check-in window is 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Some pages show visitor-counter hours until 6 p.m.; use 5 p.m. as the safe arrival cutoff unless the hotel confirms otherwise. The official site does not promise late-day admission for walk-in visitors.

The pool area is scheduled to close for renovation from October 13, 2026, through May 31, 2027, with reopening planned for early summer. The renovation notice says pool-and-bath tickets will stop being sold. It names the pools as the facilities under construction, not the bath, so do not assume Shimanchu no Yu itself is closed—but do confirm the post-renovation day-use offer before travelling.

The hotel is about 7–15 minutes from Naha Airport by taxi, depending on route and traffic. From Asahibashi Station, allow roughly 15 minutes on foot. Day-use visitors are not admitted with tattoos; children may enter the opposite-gender bath only up to age six, before elementary school.

Uminchu no Yu: sauna rooms and a quieter spa layout

Uminchu no Yu occupies the second floor of Loisir Spa Tower, next to the main hotel. It shares Shimanchu’s Miegusuku source and treatment, but the two baths are different products.

Standard rate¥3,500¥1,750No

The overall bath hours are 7 a.m.–11 p.m., with last bath admission at 10:30 p.m. Day visitors have a shorter check-in window: 9 a.m.–5 p.m. That gap catches people who read only the opening hours. A guest staying in the Spa Tower has different access conditions, so do not use the overnight schedule to plan a day visit.

The bath has indoor and outdoor pools, a cold plunge and separate saunas: a dry sauna around 85°C on the men’s side and a steam sauna around 42°C on the women’s side. Its reason to cost more is the spa layout and sauna provision, not a higher-grade spring. Visitors with tattoos are not admitted. Children may enter the opposite-gender bath up to age six, before elementary school.

How to choose without adding a detour

For a flight-day stop, Ryujin no Yu has the cleanest route: the airport bus connection and short drive avoid a trip across town. If you are already staying near Asahibashi or Nishi, compare the two Loisir baths instead of going back south to Senagajima. Shimanchu makes more sense for families who can use the pool package before the renovation; Uminchu suits adults prioritizing its sauna rooms and spa atmosphere.

Enjin no Yu is a separate Nanjo outing. Pair it with the south-coast itinerary or a rental-car day; a bus from Naha is feasible, but the roughly hour-long ride each way makes it a poor choice for a quick soak before a flight. For other island baths, see the Aoshima day-use onsen guide or the Ibusuki day-use onsen comparison.
