Aoshima Onsen Day-Use Baths Compared: Myth no Yu, Cinq Male and ANA

Myth no Yu is the easiest low-cost stop near Aoshima Station. Cinq Male has the best-known Pacific view, though its public bath is indoors; the outdoor baths are separate private rentals. ANA Holiday Inn Resort Miyazaki has the largest resort-style bath area and sits near Kodomonokuni Station. All three currently refuse guests with tattoos.

Cinq Male is south of central Aoshima. Its guest shuttle is not part of day-use admission, so check public transport for your date if you are not driving.

Compare price, access and the kind of bath you want

Prices, rules and schedules were checked on 27 September 2026. Cinq Male’s schedule at that check listed a closure on 30 September and reopening at 3 p.m. on 1 October. ANA’s notice changes its large-bath cleaning schedule from October: both men’s and women’s baths close from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursday of each month. Recheck the operator’s notice before leaving, especially around closure or maintenance dates.

Myth no Yu: earliest opening and lowest entry price

Myth no Yu is part of Aoshima Fisherman’s Beachside Hostel & Spa, about a three-minute walk from JR Aoshima Station. Its day ticket allows re-entry during opening hours. Public bathing runs 6 a.m.–10 p.m.; last admission is 9:30 p.m., and private-bath sessions end at 8 p.m.

The spring is an alkaline simple sulfur cold spring, with a listed pH of 9.4. The operator identifies the outdoor bath, two reservable private baths and cold plunge as using source water without reheating. That does not mean every tub at the property has identical water handling. The one-hour private bath costs ¥1,800 and requires a reservation. Public-bath admission and private-bath rental are separate charges.

There is also a dry sauna, cold plunge, indoor public bath and a shared rest area. The operator currently refuses entry to anyone with tattoos and asks that children who are not yet out of diapers avoid the baths. Towels are extra; because the current site does not give a complete, current towel price list, bring your own or confirm the cost before you go.

Choose Myth no Yu for an early soak, especially if you are staying near Aoshima Station. The station is close, and the day ticket lets you return later during opening hours.

Hotel Aoshima Cinq Male: choose the view, not an assumed outdoor bath

Cinq Male’s third-floor public bath has broad windows facing the Pacific and the Devil’s Washboard, a wave-cut rock formation designated a natural monument. The public bath itself is indoors; there is no open-air pool in that facility. The two outdoor baths are separate private-use facilities in an annex about a one- to two-minute walk from the main building.

Day use runs 10:30 a.m.–9 p.m., with last entry at 8 p.m. The operator may shorten hours on designated dates.

Some dates during Golden Week, Obon and Silver Week. Check the day’s notice before travelling.

The spring source is listed at 44°C, pH 8.4, and classified as a sodium bicarbonate–chloride spring. The shared bath is not source-flow: the operator describes its system as partially circulated, heated, and used without dilution. In January 2026, the sauna was converted to an automatic löyly system.

Day-use visitors can rent a face towel for ¥150 or a bath towel for ¥350; a toothbrush costs ¥110. The coin locker outside the bath costs ¥100 and is non-refundable. Tattooed guests, including those with tattoo stickers, are not admitted. Children aged eight or older, or at least 120 cm tall, may not bathe with an adult of the opposite sex.

When a private ocean-view bath is the point

The two open-air baths are rented for one 60-minute session. Day-use rates are ¥2,500 on weekdays, ¥3,000 on weekends and public holidays, and ¥3,500 on designated dates. The listed daytime starts are 10:30, 11:45, 1 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. Telephone reservations open one week ahead.

The private-bath annex has no lounge, its changing room has no air-conditioning, and the entrance has about 15 steps. The baths are uncovered; wind or rain can lead to cancellation. Include the separate fee and the walk to the annex when comparing it with the public bath. If someone in your party needs step-free access or a weatherproof bath, contact the hotel before reserving.

ANA Holiday Inn Resort Miyazaki: a larger bath complex by the coast

The resort’s Aoshima Densetsu-no-yu bath includes a panoramic shared bath, an outdoor-style rock bath, ceramic tubs, a waterfall shower, a cold plunge and a sauna. The waterfall shower is specifically identified as a source-flow bath. Do not assume that every pool in the complex uses source-flow water simply because it is in the same hot-spring facility.

Day use runs 11 a.m.–10 p.m., with last admission at 9 p.m. Towels cost extra.

The hotel also lists a coupon at ¥800 for adults and ¥500 for children. Its terms can change, so check eligibility before relying on it.

The bath is about a seven-minute walk from JR Kodomonokuni Station, making it easier to add to a rail trip between Miyazaki Airport and Aoshima. Cinq Male is the more practical choice by car. ANA bars guests with tattoos. Cleaning usually closes one gender’s bath from 10–11 a.m. on alternating days; from October 2026, both baths are listed as unavailable from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursday of each month.

Check tattoos, children and extras before setting out

Children’s admission and bathing rules differ. Myth no Yu is free for children five and under but asks that children still in diapers stay out of the baths. Cinq Male charges from age three and bars mixed-gender bathing from age eight or 120 cm. ANA admits children three and under free with a guardian.

All three currently published policies prohibit tattoos. If that affects your plans, look for a bath whose current rules explicitly allow them; do not assume a cover sticker is an exception.

Allow for extras as well as admission. Cinq Male charges for towels and its non-refundable locker; ANA charges separately for towels, and its coupon may not apply on your date. Myth no Yu’s latest towel prices are not fully listed, so bring your own or ask ahead. One bath is usually enough unless your route and timetable leave room for a second stop.
