Five Sento in Higashisumiyoshi, Osaka: Which Neighborhood Bath Fits Your Day?

Compare five operating sento in Osaka’s Higashisumiyoshi Ward by hours, sauna, station access and Nagai Park connections. Adult entry is ¥600.

Higashisumiyoshi has five operating neighborhood bathhouses on Osaka City’s 2026 list. They suit different plans: a newly renovated sauna by Nagai Park, a Sunday-morning soak, or a quick stop near Komagawa shopping street, Tanabe or Yata Station. Adult entry is ¥600 at all five; check the closing day and any sauna fee before choosing.

Osaka’s standard adult public-bath fare is ¥600. Sauna surcharges and towel arrangements vary, so ask the bathhouse if those affect your budget. Older lists may show more baths in the ward, including Kiyotaki-yu and Heiwa-yu; neither appears on the city’s 2025 or 2026 operating-bath list. That does not prove permanent closure, but they should not be treated as current stops without fresh confirmation.

Tsurugaoka Onsen: the refreshed stop beside Nagai Park

Tsurugaoka completed a full renovation in May 2026. It is about three minutes from JR Tsurugaoka Station, near Nagai Park, and has 11 parking spaces; parking is free for up to two hours when you bring the required parking certificate. The bathhouse is open 2pm–11pm and closed Fridays.

Automatic water is poured onto the sauna stones at regular intervals. Shampoo and body soap are provided.

There are 13 seats across the rest areas, including space upstairs. That makes it a natural finish after a run, match or visit to the park, rather than an especially convenient late-night option.

Midori Onsen: Sunday bathing and a Mount Fuji mural

Midori is the ward’s early Sunday choice, opening at 9am that day. On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday it opens at 2pm; Wednesday is its regular day off. It is roughly a ten-minute walk from Kintetsu Yata Station and has 13 parking spaces.

The facility list includes dry and steam saunas, a cold bath, outdoor bath, electric bath, hot and milder baths, and a reclining bath. It is also listed as runner-friendly. A painted Mount Fuji by sento mural artist Morio Nakajima gives the bathing room a distinctive local touch. If a Sunday soak is the priority, this is the one to plan around; it is not an every-day morning bath.

Komagawa Onsen: a natural pause after the shopping street

Komagawa Onsen sits near the entrance to Komagawa shopping street. Harinakano Station is about three minutes away and Komagawa-Nakano about five. It opens 3pm–11pm and closes Tuesdays. The association lists a dry sauna, cold bath, medicinal bath, electric bath and jet bath. Paid parking is listed, but no number of dedicated free spaces is given.

This is the simplest match if you are already shopping or eating nearby. Its roughly 70-year history is part of its neighborhood character, though it makes less sense as a special trip from central Osaka.

Senju-yu: Tanabe’s earlier-opening local bath

Senju-yu opens at 1:30pm, earlier than the other four, and is about three minutes from Tanabe Station. Its current association listing gives hours through 11pm and closing days of Monday and Tuesday. The bathhouse appears in the association’s runner-friendly information, with the older route guide placing it about seven minutes from JR Minami-Tanabe, around 200 metres from Momogaike Park and roughly 1.5 kilometres from Nagai Park.

Published details about its baths and sauna are limited. Choose it for its location and early opening rather than assuming facilities that the current listing does not confirm. “Runner-friendly” also does not guarantee storage for a large suitcase; ask ahead if you need anything beyond a regular locker.

Yata Onsen: a two-minute walk, with one hours discrepancy

Yata is the closest of the five to a station. The association’s individual listing says 3pm–11:30pm, while its current ward directory says 3pm–11pm. For planning, use the earlier 11pm closing time; if you would arrive after 10pm, call first. It closes Saturdays and the first Sunday of the month, and has four parking spaces.

The listed facilities include a steam sauna, cold bath, electric bath, jet bath and a painted bathing-room mural. The current information confirms a steam sauna—not the dry-and-steam combination available at Midori. No current spring analysis is published, so the word “onsen” in the name should not be read as proof of a natural source.

Pick by route, not by a ward-wide ranking

For a run or day at Nagai Park, Tsurugaoka is the most direct post-activity stop. Midori wins for Sunday morning and offers the broadest sauna choice. Komagawa is easiest after browsing the shopping street. Senju-yu opens earliest and is close to Tanabe Station. Yata is the shortest station walk, with the caveat that its closing time needs a conservative read.

Only Tsurugaoka currently publishes a clear sauna surcharge in the cited sources: ¥300 for the bona sauna, with steam included. The other baths may charge separately; confirm before you enter rather than carrying over a price from another sento. The adult base fare is ¥600 at each.

None of these five has enough current first-party spring information to describe it as a legally documented natural hot spring. The word “onsen” in a bathhouse name, soft water, an outdoor bath or a medicinal bath does not establish that classification. If documented spring water is your priority, compare Spa Suminoye instead.

Tattoo rules are not clearly published for all five baths. Osaka bathhouse customs vary, so call the particular facility if you need a definite answer before making the trip.
