Ikuno sento guide: 22 neighborhood baths, from early openings to late nights
Compare 22 Ikuno bathhouses by hours, closing days and location, including Sunday morning openings, late-night baths and Osaka’s ¥600 adult fare.
Ikuno is one of Osaka’s strongest areas for old-school neighborhood bathhouses. The Osaka Public Bathhouse Association currently lists 22 facilities in the ward, spread across Tsuruhashi, Momodani, Imazato, Tatsumi, Tajima and Teradacho. The practical differences are hours and location: one bath opens at 7 a.m., another at 6 a.m. on weekends, and several stay open until 1 a.m.
Start with the time you can actually visit
For a Sunday morning, Yagara Onsen opens at 8 a.m. and is about three minutes from Kitatatsumi Station; its listing includes a sauna and outdoor bath. Hyakuso-yu opens earlier, at 7 a.m., but closes at 8 p.m. On Saturdays and Sundays, New Kiyotaki Onsen starts at 6 a.m. and runs until 1 a.m.; on weekdays it opens at 2 p.m. and also closes at 1 a.m.
For a late bath around Momodani, Momodani Onsen is two minutes from the station and stays open until 1 a.m. It closes Mondays. Nishiki-yu and New Kiyotaki Onsen also list 1 a.m. closing times; Tajima Shin Onsen and Shusse-yu close at 12:30 a.m. Check the current listing on the day, especially for baths with irregular monthly closures.

What ¥600 covers—and what may cost extra
Osaka’s current standard public-bath admission is ¥600 for adults, ¥200 for school-age children and ¥100 for younger children. That does not mean every extra is included. Sauna charges, towels, toiletries and hair dryers can vary by bathhouse. Yagara Onsen’s listing describes its sauna as free; do not assume the same at the other 21.
Also, a bathhouse name containing “Onsen” is not proof of natural spring water. The ward directory does not provide spring analysis for these 22 listings as a group. If a confirmed natural source matters, check the individual facility’s current documentation rather than choosing by name.
Which part of Ikuno are you staying in?
Momodani and Tsuruhashi are convenient for Loop Line hotels and an evening after dinner. If you are staying near Teradacho, Shusse-yu is a sensible late option. For the Tatsumi side, Yagara Onsen’s Sunday opening and proximity to Kitatatsumi Station are useful; Fukutoku Onsen has more listed parking, but closes at 11 p.m.
Irregular schedules are common in this ward. Megane Onsen lists several monthly closing days, while Tajima Shin Onsen and Yamato Onsen also have non-fixed closures. Check the association’s individual facility page on the day, and keep a second option in the same neighborhood if the bath is the main reason for the trip.
Momodani, Teradacho and the Tatsumi side
Momodani Onsen and Gokuraku Onsen serve much the same part of the ward, but they are not interchangeable. Momodani stays open until 1 a.m. and lists a dry sauna and outdoor bath; Gokuraku closes at 11 p.m. and has both dry and steam saunas. If you arrive after 11, the former is the realistic choice. Both have “Onsen” in the name, but neither is being described here as a documented natural spring.
Near Teradacho, Shusse-yu is the later option, listed until 12:30 a.m. Minami-Ikuno Onsen closes at 11:30 p.m. and is the pick if you want both dry and steam saunas, a cold bath and a medicinal bath. On the Kotsu/Tatsumi side, Ebisu-yu has a notably broad facility list: dry and steam saunas, soft water, medicinal and carbonated baths, a radon bath and an outdoor bath. Fukutoku Onsen is easier by car, with 11 listed spaces and dry and steam saunas; Kaga Onsen has both sauna types and an outdoor seasonal bath, but closes at 10 p.m.
Yagara’s September hours and what its 38°C means
Yagara normally closes on the second and fourth Wednesdays, but the association posted adjusted September 2026 dates of September 16 and 30. For a September visit, follow the dated notice rather than inferring the schedule from the usual pattern. Its Sunday opening is 8 a.m.; Monday through Saturday it opens at 2 p.m. The roughly 38°C listing refers to a reclining or jet bath, not to the temperature of a natural spring. The bathhouse lists a free sauna, cold bath, carbonated bath and outdoor bath.
Which bath makes sense for a sauna visit?
Megane Onsen is the current Ikuno choice for automatic Löyly, but the sauna is paid and the monthly closing dates move around. For a traditional dry sauna, Koutoku Onsen or Ogonyu are simpler neighborhood stops. If you want both dry and steam rooms, look at Gokuraku, Minami-Ikuno, Ebisu, Fukutoku or Kaga; Yagara’s listed sauna is free. These are equipment distinctions, not a ranking—your route and the last-admission time may matter more.
Late baths and date checks
The ward’s latest listed closing times are 1 a.m. at Momodani Onsen, Nishiki-yu and New Kiyotaki Onsen. Tajima Shin Onsen and Shusse-yu run until 12:30 a.m.; Chitose and Koutoku close at midnight. Choose by where you are sleeping: a half-hour later closing rarely makes up for a long trip across the ward after your last train.
Temporary closures are common enough that a map app’s “open” label should not be your only check. Megane Onsen closes on several irregular dates each month, Tajima Shin Onsen about twice monthly, and Yamato and Tsurukame also have non-fixed closures. The association’s facility pages carry date-specific notices. Its current September notice for Yagara, for example, replaces the ordinary Wednesday rule with the 16th and 30th.
Ikuno Ward has no confirmed shared tattoo rule; ask the bathhouse you plan to visit. None of the 22 facilities has a natural-source analysis in the directory, so an onsen label alone does not verify spring water.
