Sakae-yu in Hayashiji: A Traditional Sento Near Tobu-Ichiba-mae
A practical guide to Hayashiji Sakae-yu in Ikuno: a seven-minute walk from Tobu-Ichiba-mae, ¥600 entry, dry sauna and last entry at 10:30pm.
Sakae-yu is an easy neighborhood bath if you are staying near Hayashiji or arriving by JR Yamatoji Line. The walk from Tobu-Ichiba-mae Station takes about seven minutes. Its appeal is a straightforward one: hotter and milder baths, a cold bath, and a traditional dry sauna, all at the standard Osaka public-bath price of ¥600.
Two Osaka bathhouses share the name Sakae-yu. The one at 4-11-14 Hayashiji, Ikuno Ward is separate from the bath listed at 4-16-8 Tajima. The Osaka Public Bath Association and Osaka City’s current operating-bath list give the Hayashiji address.
Hours, last entry and the best time to arrive
The association lists Sakae-yu as open from 3pm to 11pm, with last admission at 10:30pm. It closes on Thursdays. That half-hour gap matters: 10:30 is the cutoff for entering, not a sensible time to begin a full wash, soak and sauna visit.
If you want to use the hotter bath, the milder bath, the cold bath and sauna without watching the clock, aim for around 9:30–10pm. A quick wash and soak takes less time, but there is little upside in arriving at 10:25 just because the doors have not technically closed yet.
A short walk from Tobu-Ichiba-mae
JR Yamatoji Line’s Tobu-Ichiba-mae Station is about seven minutes away on foot. From Tennoji, it is a short train ride followed by that walk; the bathhouse is also practical if you are based around Hayashiji, Kuwazu or the south side of Bishoen. No dedicated parking is listed, so drivers should locate a nearby paid lot before setting out.
Hot, warm and cold: the bathhouse’s useful range
The association lists a hot bath, a milder bath, a cold bath, jet and bubble baths, and an electric bath. You can ease into the warmer water, switch to the hotter tub for a shorter soak, or cool down after bathing. There is no need to turn that into an intense hot-cold routine; step out if you feel unwell, and take extra care with very hot water if you have a health condition.
The ¥600 adult admission is the standard Osaka public-bath fare. Elementary-school children pay ¥200 and younger children ¥100. A dry sauna is confirmed, but no current surcharge is published, so ask at reception if you need the exact total. The front area has basic conveniences including drinks, ice cream, massage chairs and a hair dryer; it is a local sento, not a spa with a large restaurant or lounge.
What is—and is not—confirmed about the sauna and water
The official listing confirms a dry sauna. A current third-party sauna listing has shown readings around 130°C for the men’s side and about 88°C for the women’s side, with cold-bath readings around 18°C and 20°C. Those are reported observations, not guaranteed settings: thermometer placement, season and operating conditions can all change what a visitor sees. Treat the men’s room as a notably hot dry sauna and leave when it feels too intense; there is no prize for staying through discomfort.
The association also confirms a cold bath but does not specify its source or supply method. A third-party directory describes groundwater flow, but that is not enough to present it as an official specification. Groundwater is not, by itself, proof of a natural hot spring.
Likewise, the current official facility list does not confirm an outdoor bath or legally classified natural spring water. Generic icons on aggregator pages can be misleading. Sakae-yu’s documented strengths are its temperature range, sauna and station access—not an outdoor view or a verified source spring.
Which nearby bath fits better?
Sakae-yu works best when you are already near Tobu-Ichiba-mae and can arrive before the 10:30pm cutoff. If you are starting later, Tajima Shin Onsen stays open until 12:30am and lists two saunas and a large waterfall-style cold bath. Fukutoku Onsen is the better match for dry and steam saunas, soft water, an outdoor bath and more parking. For a ward-wide shortlist, see the Ikuno Ward sento guide.
