Shofuen in Takatsuki: Spring, Baths and How to Get There

Shofuen pairs rooftop outdoor baths with Takatsuki’s Hananosato No. 2 spring. Check current admission and free-shuttle times; neither is clearly published.

Shofuen is a day-use hot-spring complex on the south side of Settsukyo Park, north of central Takatsuki. Its clearest point of difference is the Hananosato Onsen No. 2 spring: a sodium bicarbonate spring that the facility’s sister inn, Sansuikan, lists at 42°C, pH 9.2 and about 850 mg/kg of bicarbonate. Shofuen pairs that spring identity with large public baths, outdoor bathing areas and a family-bath option.

The source figures describe the spring, not a fixed bathing-pool temperature. They also do not prove that every pool is filled and maintained in the same way. If you are comparing how the water is used, look for details from the specific facility rather than reading pH as a measure of treatment or quality.

The outdoor setting is part of the visit

The Takatsuki Tourism Association describes indoor bathing, family baths, tub baths and a panoramic outdoor bath, alongside a restaurant and massage area. The layout gives Shofuen more to do than a quick station-side soak. It is an easier fit when you have time for a proper bath visit or are already heading toward Settsukyo; it is less convenient as an unplanned stop between trains.

If you specifically want the No. 2 spring in an inn setting beside the gorge, Sansuikan also uses water from this source in its outdoor bath. The inn says that it is transported there, so it should not be described as an unchanged, 100% reproduction of bathing at Shofuen. Its day-use guide explains the separate hours and access arrangements.

Getting there from JR Takatsuki

The Tourism Association lists two city-bus options from JR Takatsuki Station’s north side: the bus for Tsukawaki, about 15 minutes, followed by a five-minute walk; or the bus for Shimo-no-kuchi, about 20 minutes, followed by another five-minute walk. It also lists a free shuttle from the JR station area. The association does not publish the shuttle timetable or admission price, so check Shofuen’s current notice or call before you travel.

Shofuen’s regular hours are listed as 10 a.m.–midnight, with last admission at 11 p.m. The tourism listing says it is open year-round, but special closures and transport schedules can still affect a particular date. The bath’s closing time is not the same as the last bus or shuttle back to the station.

Admission and private-bath details need a current check

Shofuen’s current admission price and full family-bath terms are unconfirmed. The tourism listing directs visitors to the facility for details; call before budgeting for towels or a private session, or booking for a specific group.

Shofuen’s tattoo policy and step-free access details are unconfirmed. Call ahead if either affects your visit or if you want to reserve the family bath.

Where Shofuen fits among Takatsuki’s baths

Choose Shofuen when a natural-spring complex and its outdoor bathing area are more important than arriving on foot from the station. For a short rail stop or an early opening, Tenjin no Yu is much closer to JR Takatsuki and Hankyu Takatsuki-shi. For a valley-side inn with two spring profiles, see Sansuikan’s day-use information. Our Takatsuki onsen comparison lays out the different trip shapes.
