Tokyo Yokujo in Nishikoyama: A Private Sauna, 7,000 Books and Split Hours
One minute from Nishikoyama Station, Tokyo Yokujo has a 7,000-book lounge and reservable solo sauna. Bathing hours split at noon, with a 2 p.m. reopening.
Tokyo Yokujo is a neighbourhood sento that reopened in 2020 with a giant book wall in the lobby and a private sauna that is genuinely for one person at a time. It sits a minute from Nishikoyama Station, so there is little travel overhead. Just remember the midday break: it closes from noon to 2 p.m. rather than running straight through the day.
The “okomori” sauna is a separate booking
Tokyo Yokujo does not have a communal sauna add-on. Its “okomori sauna” is a 70-minute, one-person private room that must be reserved online and paid for in advance. The ¥1,100 sauna fee includes aroma water, a towel set and sauna mat; adult bathing is another ¥600, for a total of ¥1,700.
Guests can pour their own aroma water and play music from a phone. It is a good fit if you want to control your own heat and sound without sharing a sauna room. It is not a sauna for a couple or friends to use together. Arrive early for the first-use briefing; a late arrival does not extend the 70-minute booking. The facility says users must be high-school age or older, and bathing or sauna use after drinking is not allowed.
The lobby is part of the visit
The lobby’s wall-to-ceiling bookcases hold more than 7,000 manga and other books. It is a place to sit before or after bathing, not a guaranteed private reading seat at busy times. Shampoo and soap are provided, and the facility also lists children’s baths, rental towels and rotating craft beer.
The bathing area itself is simpler: hot baths, jet baths and two barrel-shaped cold plunges. One uses well water, but that does not make Tokyo Yokujo a natural onsen. The operator describes the cold plunge as a continuously flowing well-water barrel bath; its listed depth is about 85 centimetres. There is no outdoor bath or large public sauna.
Hours, price and access
Adult bathing is ¥600; elementary-school children pay ¥200 and younger children ¥100. The facility notes that one young child may enter free with each adult. Hours are 5 a.m.–noon and 2 p.m.–2 a.m.; Tuesday is the regular closing day, moved to the next weekday if Tuesday is a public holiday. Nishikoyama Station on the Tokyu Meguro Line is about a one-minute walk.
Tattoos are allowed, including for guests using the private sauna. If you are comparing a private one-person sauna with an ordinary public sauna, Peace-yu in Nishi-Oi is a lower-cost neighbourhood alternative, though it has a different, communal setup.
