Takarayu in Nogata: Tokyo’s Neighbourhood Onsen with Two Rotating Saunas

This renovated Nakano sento has natural spring water, a carbonated bath and two saunas that switch sides each month. Check the current assignment before going.

Takarayu has changed in two notable steps: a full renovation in October 2023, then natural-hot-spring approval in April 2025. It still feels like a neighbourhood bathhouse rather than a large spa, but the ¥600 standard Tokyo bath ticket now covers more than a basic soak: there is a carbonated bath, an outdoor silky bath and a distinctive mineral-stone cold bath. The sauna is an extra ¥500.

The sauna changes sides every month

One bathhouse has two different sauna setups, but guests do not choose between them on the same visit. The men’s and women’s bathing areas switch monthly. One side has a stone sauna with automatic löyly and a fan; the other has a TV-equipped comfort sauna with far-infrared heating. The former is the more intense, humid option, while the latter offers steadier heat.

The venue confirms the monthly rotation, but its permanent pages do not lock in a dependable odd-month/even-month assignment. If a particular sauna is the reason for your visit, check Takarayu’s current social posts rather than relying on an old calendar.

What is in the ¥600 bath ticket

Tokyo’s regulated adult bathing fee rose to ¥600 on 1 August 2026. Takarayu’s own price page still shows the former ¥550 rate.

Its sauna add-on is listed at ¥500.

Budget ¥1,100 for an adult bath-and-sauna visit and confirm the counter’s current total before paying. Shampoo and body wash are provided. Face and bath towels are available to rent, but current rental prices are not listed online.

The natural spring is a recent change, not an old claim carried forward. Takarayu says it received approval in April 2025. Its separate Bad Gastein mineral-stone system is used for the cold bath; that equipment does not make the spring a radon-classified hot spring.

Without the sauna add-on, there is still a useful mix of baths: a high-concentration carbonated pool, jet baths and an outdoor silky bath with fine bubbles. The cold bath sits alongside these facilities, but its mineral-stone branding should be understood as a feature of the bath system, not a published spring-water analysis.

A few practical details before you go

Takarayu is open from 1 p.m. to midnight and is about a six-minute walk from Nogata Station on the Seibu Shinjuku Line. The venue lists four parking spaces, but that is a small lot; do not count on finding an open space at busy times. Its regular closing day is Monday, with the following Tuesday closed when Monday is a public holiday. Last admission is listed at 11:30 p.m. by the Tokyo Sento Association.

Tattoos are permitted according to Takarayu’s FAQ. The official pages list shampoo and body wash in the bathing area, which makes it straightforward for a light stop after exploring Nakano or the Seibu Shinjuku Line neighbourhoods.

For other Nakano sento options, compare Egotayu and Matsumotoyu.
