Shiromizuyu in Iriya: A Deep Bath and Men’s Auto-Aufguss Sauna

See what Shiromizuyu offers after its 2024 renovation: a 90 cm medicinal bath, ¥600 adult admission and an extra-charge auto-Aufguss sauna on the men’s side.

Shiromizuyu is still a local-scale bathhouse, but its 2024 renovation gave it a clear draw for sauna users: the men’s sauna runs automatic water-pouring and air-blowing cycles about every 20 minutes, with a cold plunge and outdoor-air rest area nearby. The women’s side has the renovated baths but no regular sauna, so the distinction is worth knowing before making a special trip.

Start with the 90-centimetre bath

The standard baths include a gentler white-water pool with jet and electric features, plus a deeper medicinal bath that is around 90 centimetres deep. Its herbal blend changes by day, so a coffee or seasonal bath listed on a recent calendar is not a permanent fixture. The pool is deep enough that shorter guests, children and anyone with balance concerns should use the handholds and enter slowly.

Shiromizuyu is not a natural hot spring. Its bath temperatures and rotating herbal ingredients describe the bathing setup, not a source-water profile. If natural spring water is the priority, look at Yudonburi Sakaeyu or nearby Hinodeyu instead.

The sauna is a men’s-side feature

The men’s sauna fits more than ten people and has automatic steam and auto-aufguss roughly every 20 minutes. Recent operating descriptions place its usual room temperature around 80°C, with the heat feeling stronger when the water-pouring and airflow cycle starts. The adjoining cold bath and outdoor-air area make it a complete circuit without needing to cross a large spa complex.

The exact cold-bath temperature can vary; recent visits have reported about 18°C, but that is not a fixed facility specification. A deep cold bath is also different from the 90-centimetre medicinal hot bath. If the first heat cycle feels too intense, leave the sauna rather than trying to endure the full interval.

Women can use the renovated bath area, including its main and medicinal baths, but the current price page and Tokyo Sento Association listing specify the sauna for men only. Anyone searching for a women’s sauna should choose another facility rather than assume the equipment is shared.

Men’s sauna add-on: weekday / weekend or holiday / designated special date¥400 / ¥500 / ¥700

The 2024 renovation also improved the bathing area and wash stations, but tattoos are explicitly not permitted under the current Tokyo Sento Association listing. Don’t rely on a general rule for neighbourhood sento; each facility sets its own policy.

For a quieter natural hot-spring soak nearby, read the Hinodeyu guide. If you want to compare other sauna-focused public baths, start with Tokyo sento basics.
