Aqua Place Asahi in Oku-Asakusa: A Hot Sauna and a Flowing Cold Bath

Aqua Place Asahi costs ¥600 plus ¥200 for the sauna; it has a hot sauna, flowing groundwater cold bath and 3 p.m.–midnight hours.

At Aqua Place Asahi, the sauna is upstairs. After a hot bath on the main floor, you take the stairs to the sauna and the flowing cold bath, then settle nearby before doing another round. It is a memorable layout for a small neighbourhood sento, though anyone unsteady on stairs should take the transition slowly—especially after a hot session.

A short, affordable sauna visit

Visit itemCurrent rate
Adult public bath¥600, from August 1, 2026
Sauna add-on¥200; bath plus sauna ¥800
Face towel / bath towel¥30 rental / ¥100 rental
Hair dryer¥20 for 3 minutes

The sauna room was re-lined in pale wood in spring 2026; the raised sauna level and older bathhouse layout remain. Visitor readings are not a fixed operating setting:

Temperature reportsContext
Above 110°C; some around 118°CRecent visitor readings; not a guaranteed setting

Start on a lower bench if you are unsure how the heat will feel.

The cold bath is groundwater, not a hot spring

The cold bath uses well water and is listed as flowing rather than recirculated. There is no published hot-spring analysis, so the venue should not be described as a natural onsen.

Cold-bath readingsContext
Often 15–18°C; an older feature recorded about 18°CVisitor readings of the bath, not a spring temperature

Other options include an electric bath, jets, bubble bath and seating baths. The electric current is described by regular visitors as strong, so ease into it rather than sitting directly against the electrodes on your first try. There is no outdoor bath. The main draw is the upstairs sauna-and-cold-bath loop, not a large spa floor.

Location and closing time

Aqua Place Asahi is in Oku-Asakusa, north of Sensoji Temple. It is about a seven-minute walk from Asakusa Station on the Tsukuba Express. From Tawaramachi, take a bus to Asakusa 4-chome and walk about a minute. The route is a better fit after exploring the quieter northern side of Asakusa than as a quick stop next to Kaminarimon.

Use midnight as the safe planning cutoff and confirm directly before a late visit. The sauna has no published humidification timetable, and equipment settings may differ between the men’s and women’s rooms.

For another Taito sauna with a different layout, compare Shiramizuyu in Iriya. First-time bathhouse visitors can use our Tokyo sento primer.
